Pierre McGuire this morning said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the hit, that the call on Backes was atrocious.
And he is correct.Pierre McGuire this morning said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the hit, that the call on Backes was atrocious.
That's even more worrisome since they've rescinded plenty of these before.
So Backes will be suspended. What a farce.
The supervisor of the refs did but given it was the middle of the game, they could hardly have reviewed the hit.I think they have actually said it was the right call.
I have been looking at some sites and i see nothing even about the hit ? I dont see anything where he is getting suspended, at least not yet. That's even more worrisome since they've rescinded plenty of these before.

How? Seriously.I think they have actually said it was the right call.

Pierre has toned down the act a lot over the years. If you get the chance to listen to him on a morning radio show you’d never know it was the same guy that’s on t.v.Pierre is obnoxious but he knows hockey.
Automatic suspension until reviewed and/or rescinded.
Thank you, i forgot that.A match penalty carries an automatic suspension until the Commissioner reviews the call and rules on it
That check was nothing different from a thousand legal checks thrown before.
In fact teams used to practice the "Blind Side Checking Drill" to get players used to receiving the puck and immediately getting hit.
I realize that concussion prevention is huge now with the league; I get it. I just think they are overdoing it and frustrating both players and fans with the inconsistent calls.
Suspension?? **** YOU NHL, Bring back the WHA if that's the case!
This is what happens when you worry about everyone’s opinion. Eventually you forget what yours was. It's just honestly getting harder and harder for me to watch hockey. You literally might as well just abolish hitting all together at this point. It's sad, but the new fans are getting what they want.
I also think there should be a panel of judges. Too much power in one dudes hands and if that one dude has a bias there isn’t much chance to be treated fairly. This is what happens when you worry about everyone’s opinion. Eventually you forget what yours was.
It’s fine chasing new fans. I’m not sure it’s the new ones making all the fuss though.
I do think it’s time to move the dops and video review sites to New Mexico. Because I don’t trust at all where they are now and who is in charge there
That might work. Can you imagine the flying off the handle the nhlpa would do if fines were percentages of paycheques! 10 15 20% each time! We’d never see a hit in the league again.I also think there should be a panel of judges. I know the players wouldn’t go for it but I would rather see them increase fines than just suspend (make the fines higher than the prorated per game but still use a formula based on salary so the super well paid feels the pain in the paycheck).
But a dude making 6 million a year isn’t going to feel much pain with losing a few game’s salary.
If they were handed out fairly and consistently, I don't think anyone would. But with the wheel of Justice, and then only a few get nabbed, there is definitely a stigma attached to it as well. For the players, the teams, and the fans themselves. That might work. Can you imagine the flying off the handle the nhlpa would do if fines were percentages of paycheques! 10 15 20% each time! Off topic a bit. I always found it odd how personal fans take suspensions. Playoffs I understand, but mid season? Who cares if a guy is out a week. In the end it’s a millionaire getting a vacation in the Bahamas while you have to go to work in sub zero temperatures.
Welcome back from the biggest joke of a suspension in a while!
The supervisor of the refs did but given it was the middle of the game, they could hardly have reviewed the hit.
If they suspend him, they will have turned the reffing in this league even more into a joke.
The one thing in his favor is the media seems to believe it was a bad call and the player wasn’t injured. The DOPS seems very responsive to whatever the Canadian media wants.
