Nah

I feel like whatever Laine does you will stick up to your narrative.

I actually been saying Laine was bad when he was bad.
And he should not say that (if he did say) to Little.

Again look at the big picture how this started. It goes as far back as last seaskn training camp. When Laine was expectig top line duty.

And to your question.
If Laine murder someone and i have information about it.
I bring him to the police officer myself.
:)
For sure we wont get that far....

I was never sour on Laine until he started playing like ass. He was a beast in his first season and although he took a bit of a dive in his overall play in his next season he was still an effective scorer. Last year was a pathetic display from him. Outside of one month where he found his shot his overall play was garbage and so was the teams but if he's a $10 million dollar player I expect him to be at least as good of a player as Scheifele is and he is not.

If Laine wants $10 mil I want nothing to do with that right now. Sign Connor if he's ready to sign, get him in camp and wait Laine out until he either comes to his senses, signs an offer sheet or gets traded.

While I don't think he deserves 10 million we do live in the world where Echiel got a 10.5 million deal after back to back mid 20 goal seasons. He was even more of a PP specialist as well only averaging second line scoring rates of 1.6 P/60. He was also a net negative in terms of corsi and XGF when compared to his teammates. Unfortunately there are dumb GMs out there that don't know how to negotiate and that undermines Chevy's job.

I think it may ultimately come down to what management views him to be for this franchise. Do they view him as that elite all situational goal scorer that he showed in his first two years that will grow into his body and then start to excel at other things or do they think he won't be that player. If you believe him to be the first player then maybe you have to take a gamble and pay him what he wants and then work on getting him to that level. If not maybe you have to trade him or wait him out.

Or he signs a bridge deal and proves to management he can be that player and cashes in when its over but maybe even he isn't sure he can do that. Sounds to me like he wants to security of a $10 million dollar player without proving it first.

I would think in his mind he believes he did prove it his first two years in the league. Joe has also shared info that he will also accept a bridge deal but his ask is high there as well. We will just have to see where it ends up.

Yeah that is an insanely high bridge deal. A deal which likely means we cant sign Connor long term and have to bridge him as well a deal that likely mean if both realize even more potential we are letting go of another load of supporting cast players.

There is enough cap to sign him to that deal and go long term with Connor if push comes to shove. They wouldn't have much wiggle room but they could make it work.

Anyone hear or see any Conner news lately?

Hoping to quietly get a TSN push notification about a 6-7 year extension for him before the end of the pre-season...

I don't think there has ever been a player in Laine's position. How many guys have two insane years at 18/19 and then fall flat on their face at 20?
I guess as many as them had at that point of their career a nagging back injury that ruined way over half of their season...

Just curious to what are these referenced amounts? I heard Jets had possibly offered something like 5+ x3 ? Where are you getting the 10 million from?

@Ippenator

To your answer in the closed thread.

I have no clue how to answer a post with such flawed reasoning..
Ha! The second paragraph was just a joke! I thought you got it. Anyway the real point was that when looking at only 5 on 5 ice time, Laine and his linemates have been usually the third line for the Jets. Power play is a another thing, but when playing 5 on 5 Lowry’s line gets really a lot of ice time.

I don’t always catch jokes:laugh:

Yeah, but raw toi, Laine is not a 3rd liner, no 3rd liners average 17mins, and no 3rd liners are regulars on the 1st pp unit.

His line mates have 1-2.5 full minutes less of raw toi.

What do you think about the current signing means to our players? Now that Boeser took 3 year $5.875? And to edit this in there, don't know if it's anything important since I don't know deals. First year 4.0, second 6.75, third 7.5. He had his injuries earlier I think, but yeah I'm not trying to be an expert of any sorts. Just wanted your thoughts while this thing has been so... boring, everything repeated over and over again.

Or is it meaningless?

I don't have a clue, but at least the dominos are falling. Still people to sign, but at least the ball is rolling.

Maybe connor is the greedy one. What possible reasons could he have to not sign yet ?? He has been handed everything a player would dream of.

Doubt it. He would be signed already was there not for Laine. They're afraid to ink him cause that'll expose Laine for hostile offers they probably couldn't match without coming up another deal on the sidelines. I'm sure Connor and his agent are aware of this as well and waiting patient with probably some kind of a sketch on the table already.

Would be a nice PR distraction to announce a Connor signing today, but with all this extra cap space from Buff, do the 2 of them ask for even more money now ??

They can ask for more, but I doubt it will make that much difference.

Agreed, but if they know Buff is done ( which I assume they know ) , the Connor deal should be very doable now that there wouldn't be a OS threat for LAine no ?

Man I wish I were a Colorado fan. Their situation is just so much easier: single free agent to sign, lots of cap space to give him what he wants, he's apparently happy with a great centre.

Wonder who's going to center Laine and Rantanen? Maybe Liut.

Liut just said on the radio in Toronto I think?, that Rantanen's comparable is Marner.

Between the Pipes
JMO, but I think the problem is Laine is trying to negotiate based on what he did in years #1 and #2, and trying to ignore year #3.
