Never thought of that possibility. Maybe we are shipping out some bodies in a (big?) trade...

Could be Lazar for a pick or something bigger.

Lazar sat out last night for "precautionary reasons", so seems like something is gonna happen soon, at least on the Lazar front. This way DiDomenico becomes the 13th forward, or leapfrogs Neil/Kelly and has a permanent spot on the 4th line.

Would have to be bigger than that. You'd have to be moving 2+ roster players out, 1 player coming back, plus this DiDomenico guy, to keep the overall numbers where they are.

Seems kinda random. Straight of the Swiss league to the NHL without ever being an NHL player. At least Pyatt had been a decent bottom 6er

Worst that could happen is we wasted 750K prorated (so like 125k?), but if he plays half as well as Pyatt then it's a steal.

So, the 4th line is now all centers?

DiDomenico/Kelly/Wingels

Interesting strategy Boucher. Interesting...

After the trade deadline can't they carry more than 23 players? Anyway it's possible they could be trying to get a mid 2nd for Lazar. It would be a shame. If it comes to that I'd prefer to keep Lazar as potential pick bait for Vegas.

I don't get this one way contract move at all

Why not claim Pulkinnen off of waivers instead?

Oh right he didn't play in Switzerland under Boucher. I'm getting sick of this Swiss League narrative already

whats there to be sick of?
We have our best coach in almost a decade from the Swiss league & the only player we signed before this has been about as good as you can hope for in his role in Pyatt

this deal does absolutely nothing to prevent us from making literally ANY other deal.

Boucher is smart. I trust him. a bottom 6 of swiss player, pyatt types.....sounds good.

Also played with hoffman under boucher for drumondville

Sort of funny how our coach is making the good moves while our GM is.....? (hmm, don't know what he is doing:dunno: Asking the coach for advice I guess).

Yeah, if boucher vouched for him, which we can all assume, where's the harm in that? I was leary of the Pyatt signing and he's been great.

He looks like a bottom 6 player that can come in and out of the lineup. If he isn't claimed on waivers looks like a solid depth signing.

Why is everyone complaining? We got a free asset for the remainder of the year without giving anything up. And if he doesn't work out he is in the AHL next year.

His last name sounds like a store pizza brand.

Hopefully Dorion keeps Lazar so we can throw frozen pizza on the ice at him.

Something something Guy Boucher only likes Switzerland.

Is there a cap on how much each AHL player can be paid? If so, that is probably why he got a 1 way. The season is roughly 3/4ths done, so there was probably no reasonable way to pay him on a 2 way deal that competes with his Swiss league salary. Similar to the CFL in football, just because it isn't a top league it isn't like the top Swiss League players are making junk money, it's a pro league where guys can make 6 figures.

1 way/2 way is irrelevant under 950k when it comes to NHL contracts unless you're a budget team....oh wait. Just kidding. Cory Conacher's contract with TB is an example of this. He got 575k on a 1 way deal and was sent down, but it doesn't effect TBs cap despite being a 1 way deal because it isn't above 950k.

Could we have made a trade? Maybe that's why we signed this guy? Maybe with Tampa Bay, they recently recalled 2 from their AHL squad.

Who's gonna claim a guy they could have signed themselves?

You'd think that would be the case, but there have been occasions in the past when teams have put in a waiver claim in this scenario just to @#$#block a division rival. It's unlikely given how tight everyone is on contracts and cap room, but it's possible...

Tampa was only at 21 players before they recalled anybody though.
