The Kraken taking Price would be great. If even just to silence some of the people in this thread.

People in the "it makes some sense" camp have tried to state that a player like Price would be an attractive target for an expansion team. More off-the-ice than on-the-ice, because Price gives you a superstar in which to market to a new group of fans. The fans in Seattle instantly become excited about their team's possibilities if they acquire a player with such a brand-name as Carey Price.

Yet, despite this perfectly logical reasoning, there have been some people in this thread who have felt the need to try to be the smartest people in the thread. "You don't know anything about business or marketing". "No way any team takes that contract, and you are stupid for thinking so". Etc., etc., etc.

These aren't 100% the exact words said by some people, but these words basically capture the essential meaning behind what some people have been posting.

The Kraken taking Price would hopefully get these people to tone-down their know-it-all type attitudes, and recognize that maybe they don't have this superior grasp of business/marketing that they seem to think they have.

EDIT: I am not saying the Kraken takes Price. But there are definitely valid reasons why they would, despite these reasons being totally dismissed by some people.

There is huge upside for them taking Price.

1. Makes them instantly competitive.
2. Allows the market to have a superstar.
3. Merchandise flying off the self.
4. The area is familiar with a price from Junior, and his jersey sales alone probably within the first month on sale probably cover a large chunk of his signing bonus.
5. When the Kraken hit free agency for the first time after the expansion draft. Just Carey Price alone can help factor in with big name targets in a market that could be a hockey bed and feel like a Canadian market but without all the media in their face. They could do something special year 1.

There is alot of upside with taking Price no doubt.

She just fed a media storm that really shouldn't happen. At least respect the fans and the rest of the team players buy not dipping into the speculation mania.

There's quite a few solid top 6 contributors available both in FA and in the xdraft for Seattle. If you already have Driedger signed there's really no point in paying three times as much for a worse starter. The cap is better spent elsewhere.

A worst starter? Lol do you know who Driedger is? Clearly not.

He's not a starter, he's an AHL goaltender who have appear in 40 NHL games at 27 years old.... Get a clue!

Most goalies do not become a full time starter until their mid to late twenties.

.927 in 23 games with the Panthers in front of you is better than Price. He was 4th in the league for goals saved above expected per 60 5v5 for guys that played at least twenty games, behind Saros, Hellebuyck, Nedeljkovic.

It seems like you have no idea who Driedger is, but Seattle does, which is why they snapped him up. When you consider the difference in contracts, it's not close.

For a third of the price? When there's a bevy of forwards and D to spend the cap on? Absolutely.

Better than using 10.5 mill per year on an AHL goaltender

...that just carried a Cinderella-level underdog tot he Finals...yup, AHL-level...thanks for your input here, Mr. Wonder...

And then had one of the worst finals performances of all time. North division was always the easiest path to the finals. Meanwhile in a much larger sample size he's been a fringe goaltender for years now

Lol ok. Stick your fingers in your ears and keep dreaming someone will take your fringe goaltender on a terrible contract who is getting hip surgery (the career ender for most goaltenders) off your hands. Habs fans are the worst.

This is an error I see a lot when the general public tries to deal in advanced stats. 23 games last year and 38 total in his career is far too small of a sample size to aggrandize a goalie. We see a plethora backups who have put up these sort of numbers in low sample size every year, but not many of them can replicate that as starters.

Clearly, Seattle sees something in Drieger beyond stats, but it's incredibly premature to declare him as a good starter given his incredibly small sample size. Seattle would be wise to get a 1A goalie, be it Price, Bishop, or someone else.

Not interested in a back and forth but he has crazy playoff numbers - something like 929 the last decade. He will be first ballot HOF, and most players consider him top 1-3.

Calling him fringe might make you friends here but it’s a pretty big tell on your ability to follow the game. Try harder

He's a GOALIE getting HIP surgery? That like a running back tearing his Achilles (RIP Cam Akers) Seattle would be insane to draft him. Unless they really feel like helping out Bergevin

I hope Seattle picks price for the drama. Would love for him to be healthy.

or MTL worst nightmare. Seattle picks Price and trades him to TOR lol obviously with salary retained and salary coming back.

Carried his team for a few rounds of the playoffs while shitting the bed the last six regular seasons.. damn he played his mind out 5-10% of his games the last seven years.. let's give this man 10.5 million and call him a top 5 goalie in the league!
