Carl Haglin is a ****ing beast of an athlete. I don't know how he has the ability to recover so fast. I spent the vast majority of my life from 7-20 playing organized hockey and I just don't get it. He's beyond a typical hockey athlete. He doesn't compute and I love that he's a Cap now not an enemy. All is forgiven.

To say he’s a relentless forechecker would be an understatement.

It seems like he’s been invigorated by the change of scenery as well.

Yep. Just another slick BMac move. Dude will be a GM legend before all is said and done.

I've always thought Ted was a very good owner with the one flaw of tolerating GMGM, who was good but not great, too long. Now that it seems like Ted has his "great" GM, I feel like the Caps could be in great shape for 15 more years, through the post Ovi period. If GMGM got ~17 years, Ted should probably keep BMac until he's 103.

It’s not like GMBM hasn’t had a couple whiffs as well (Glencross, Gleason). And that’s not even counting the Shattenkirk trade, since I still think that’s a move you make with all the info they had at the time.

But whatever scout and/or analytics dude they’ve been leaning on to ID guys like Kempny and Jensen needs a raise and title bump before some other team snatches him.

More specifically on Hagelin, I like his play style a lot, but I wish he came away with more pucks. He’s constantly pressuring on the forecheck and backcheck, and definitely makes the opposition work for every inch, but he doesn’t actually force that many turnovers. Granted, if he was still able to force turnovers like he used to, he wouldn’t have been allowed to leave Pittsburgh.

With regards to AJF, it’s sensible he was brought up in this thread since Hagelin is the exact type of player we hope AJF can become. Great vertical speed, good checker, can play special teams, questionable finishing ability. Plus the hair and Swedish connection.

Love Hagelin - but the third line was maybe our best line for a few weeks with Burky, Eller, and Connolly - so no clue why they’d break that up

Hagelin should remain a special teams specialist and solid fourth line defender
