Signing when he was allowed to talk to teams by the canes would have been a good way to get him.

Could see it.

Would think the Canes want a pick(s), no salary coming back.

only makes sense for vancouver if they can move one of their cap problems (pearson, dickinson, poolman) in the transaction. doubt carolina is interested in taking on money and term though

Which makes no sense for CAR.

They’d look to deal Bear because they have too many RD. They have no room at the inn up front either. If they deal Bear, it’ll most likely be for futures.

The problem is very few teams can and are willing to make a pick for a player with $ deal.

The teams that have space aren't interested in giving up futures for an ok player when they can probably grab one for free off waivers.

Players are dealt for picks all the time.

If the Canes were willing to QO Bear, I highly doubt they’d waive him. If it comes down to them having to waive a D, my money would be on Chatfield, who may be of interest to VAN as well, but he also comes with another yr of term.

If that’s the ask, this rumour makes no sense because they have no cap space to take Bear on. Cap would have to go the other way. And for those reasons, this trade doesn’t happen.

Offer a b-level prospect and no pick higher than a 4th rounder.
He's a bottom pairing RHS guy but still has some potential... i would not value him that high.

If they're moving Hughes to the right side, then with Bear, the right D look like:
Hughes
Myers
Bear
Schenn

that's okay

Of course.

But you may have noticed this offseason is a bit of an anomaly.

There are 10 teams that can add his salary, which is pretty meager, but that shows you the weird uncharted waters we are in.

Of those 10 teams, some don't have a need (CGY, NYI) and a bunch have zero interest in competing so they aren't going to give an asset for 1 year rental of a 6th D (ARI, CHI, ANA).

All it takes is one interested party, so it could happen, but we are seeing right now that nobody is all that interested in adding salary.

Guessing DeHaan will get a contract soon if Bear is on the move.

Slavin - Burns
Skjei - Pesce
DeHaan - Coghlan
xxxxx - Chatfield

Here's the capfriendly roster for each team if a Bear/Höglander trade went down:
