People keep labelling him a “top 4 RD” but he absolutely would not be a top 4 on the vast majority of playoff teams. His competition are Schenn and Poolman; he’s essentially gifted the spot in Vancouver. He is a high event player that takes way too many stupid penalties and is often caught out of position as he appears to have a fairly low hockey IQ. You don’t win with players like him unless he’s getting paid $3 mill or less to play on a bottom pairing where he doesn’t get exposed as much.

if they are trading him and selling high because of trouba this season/post season, they are knuckleheads. myers isnt bad but he isnt going to get van what they think they are going to get.

If they acquire a RH’ed d-man in a potential Miller/Boeser/Garland trade, then simply moving Myers and gaining that capspace would be a victory in itself. Any additional assets would be gravy IMO.

I would assume that Vancouver is looking to move the contract and not take any money back so sounds like picks or prospects are in the cards...what level? I have no idea lol, maybe someone like Foudy or Fix-Wolsky?
For better or worse, Myers is a top four guy for us. Taking a contract back isn't the end of the world, but Myers flirted with being worth his high cap hit this year, so I don't feel he is a dump. A prospect or pick isn't the only thing we'd be looking at though.

Foudy is intriguing though. Seems to fit the new boss' vision to a T.

The Canucks are (should be) looking for creative ways to eat cap space heavily this year to try and move some of the longer term deals and getting rid of Myers 6m per year for the next two years could be a key step in that plan.

If they can move Miller (at 50%) for high end futures/ELC players and Myers (sure, retain here too) for a pick it allows the Canucks to move guys like Pearson (not exclusively a cap dump, he was solid this year), Poolman, and Dickinson (ya this guy sucks, complete dump) for players who are signed for too much money for a single year. They can try to trade them retained at the deadline if they want but it doesn't matter as it essentially starts the Canucks' window a year early instead of the 2 years from now because of Benning's poor contract planning.

If the Flyers are looking to make a splash at FA this year but JVR's cap hit is stopping it, maybe they'd be able to make the moves they want if they had Pearson or Dickinson instead. Same goes for guys like Zucker, Erik Johnson, Dadonov, Byron, Lucic, Hornqvist etc.

So are the Canucks throwing out flyers on Meyers? Just in case Klingberg has interest in playing in Vancouver?

The only way this works for us is if we have AT LEAST one or 2 other RHD coming back in other moves (Miller? Garland? etc) as Tucker Poolman as our #1 RHD sends shivers down my spine.

He was actually very playable this year and a lot of the gaffes of the past were absent from his game. Whether or not he's actually improved or that's a product of playing with OEL it's hard to tell (probably a bit of both).

And for those of you that say he's soft..........most definitely not. Last century when we were in the playoffs guy was mauling anything and everything (minor detail of him getting 9 penalties a game due to being a gangly giraffe with no control over his limbs).

No, moving Myers has clear cap implications for Vancouver. I've said it before in this thread, but the Canucks' main goal is likely to move some of their low money but longer term contracts for high dollar low term deals like JVR, Zucker, EJ, Dadonov, Byron, Lucic, that are restricting other teams from being active in free agency. Moving Myers lets the Canucks potentially start their window after this season, instead of two seasons from now when Pearson, Dickinson, and Poolman's deals expire.

Wouldn't mind the tall Texan on the Coyotes. And really like the 15th overall spot. Don't see how either could work out.

Soderstrom probably fit right in with the Canucks and will be an every day nhl player next season, just had bad luck this past season when he was called up. He did stay with Oliver in his 1st camp and I don't know if OEL had anything to do with the Coyotes trading up to select him. Just typing...

Myers is a decent zone coverage defender, has grit to his game, and can surprise once in a while with his skating and transition.

At his worst he’s a solid depth defender. Every once in a while he plays like a legit #1D. He absolutely has value.

Anyone saying his contract is unmovable is out to lunch. He’s a good player.
Grit? Legit #1D? We are talking about TYLER Myers, not whatever Myers you are talking about.

I don’t think we are fooling anyone here…. Myers is more of a #5D. He can play up as a 4 in a pinch… but is definitely not a top pairing D. Maybe the Canucks force him up as we have zero depth but doesn’t mean that’s right either.

id rather Jeff petry over Tyler Myers. Better skater and and better offense. Still right shot.
Contract is similar 6.25M for 3 more seasons instead of 2
