I wouldn't have a problem with Virtanen coming in on a PTO with Calgary.
It would be, of course, an uphill battle for the kid particularly in the conditioning department (unless he arrives in great shape).
Sutter is like a father figure for a lot of the younger players as he is a no-nonsense straight shooter. The Flames have a good veteran group that could guide the kid along.
As far as his game goes, nose to the grindstone. Do as you're told, pay attention to detail and maybe you might have a chance.
Overall, Virtanen could benefit as a person and a player from this exposure.
It's funny reading the whole Sutter thing here over the years. We saw it play out in LA already. He eventually loses the room because his shtick gets played out. He's also not the most new age personality in terms of dealing with younger players.
It also reads like he's the only coach out there who actually sets ground rules for his players. It's just odd reading. We don't really have a lot to compare his methods to other coaches in the NHL because you're not really in the room.
If Virtanen shows up to any camp out of shape or shows that he's not a personable player, odds are he won't fit into any locker room in the NHL. Not just Calgary's.
To his defense, he's a guy that Vancouver chose to re-sign to a two-year extension in the summer where their management chose to let guys like Markstrom, Tanev and Toffoli walk. There are definitely some parts of his game that teams will value.
