I watched that first pre-season game against Edmonton and was so pissed with Smith.
Dayum did he ever turn it around and has been so good for us so far. I pray he isn't hurt.
We must have been watching two different games. To try and pin the loss in Edmonton on Smith is a fool's errand.
In reality, Smith has been the most solid and consistent player on the ice thus far, and I would even venture so far as to say he has been the most stable goaltending option Calgary has had since Kiprusoff - he legitimately plays with the abilities and confidence of a #1. Never once have I felt as confident with Elliott, Ramo, or anyone else that the Flames have tried to fill the gap with.
And I wasn't a big fan of acquiring him but outside of his shaky play in the preseason where most of the team looked lost, he has been an absolute positive. I wasn't a fan of his personality on/off the ice, his penchant for extra theatrics, etc. And I never will be. But as a goaltender, he IS a #1 and plays like one.
And holy crap i just won 87k in fake monies.
