I don't think the price paid by Vegas was too high, but I honestly really wonder if it'll be worth it. Going from Stepehenson to Eichel is a big upgrade, but how much does it really help the team? Pacioretty-Stephenson-Stone was already an elite line. How much better can Eichel make that line? And you already have Marchessault-Karlsson-Smith. Eichel's obviously not going on the 3rd line.

The cap implications are going to be tough too. Dadonov is gonna have to be fired off somewhere for cap space (idk why they even traded for him).

Once everyone is healthy (a ways out), maybe it makes more sense for Vegas to split up their top-six for depth? Especially considering Tuch went the other way. Roll some pairs of Eichel/Pacioretty, Stephenson/Stone, Marchessault/Karlsson. Reilly Smith fills in one spot on lines 1-3, then plug in the least bad fill-in remaining for the rest (Roy? Janmark?).

Lol Vegas forwards have always been way overrated before getting Jack. They are good in the regular season but the team just can't finish in the playoffs because they dont have that next gear. They are hoping Eichel will take their team over the hump and show how to win big games.

I guess, if you don't think Dugan, Brisson, Morozov, Dorofeyev, Thompson, Miromanov, Korczak, Cormier, Chyka etc can fill in top 9/bottom pair/backup roles.

:dunno:

We can agree to disagree on the prospect pool.

Not having Smith, Tuch or Krebs next season is going to hurt their top 6 depth a little, I will give you that.
sure but how good are they? time will tell but the Knights have already given up Suzuki, Krebs, Glass and Brannstrom
those are high-end prospects

It's been a while since we have seen Eichel play so we forget how good he is. He plays at 80% of his previous form after surgery and the trade is a steal. This is a guy almost unanimously understood as a top 10 player in the game previously, and he is locked up.

I honestly think we are underrating how good Eichel is. This is a unique situation where you can trade for one of these superstars, they otherwise are never available. Vegas made out like bandits.

It's not a bad return, but certainly pales in comparison to a majority of the proposals put forth by some fans.

This trade has the word "DESPERATE" written all over it.

Reminds me of a guy sitting by himself in a Vegas Casino at 4AM in the morning as he bets the rest of his kids tuition fund on a Horse with a bad case of Scoliosis because it could pay 5-1.

It's a desperate gamble, but then again, who in their right mind has ever made a bad bet in Vegas at 4 AM in the morning...

Glass' development was derailed by 4 knee injuries, and I don't even know what's going on with Brannstrom.

You mention the prospects but the whole picture is Pacioretty, Eichel and Stone.

You think so? If he’s not healthy, they don’t win in the next two years you think Brad and the regime survive???

2 years? I think if the team makes the playoffs this year and everyone is healthy, they're gone if they have a 1st round exit.

Every year is Cup or Bust for Foley.

Good trade for both sides. Sabres get some help for now and the future, Golden Knights get their #1C which puts Howden down where he belongs....on the 2nd line.

They made the Final 4 two seasons in a row, so not sure how "overrated" they can be. I don't know how you can say they don't have that "next gear" in the playoffs, because they looked like a buzzsaw against an incredibly strong Colorado lineup.

The question is whether Eichel can take them over the top. My reservations are I'm not sure how much better he makes them.

That’s not what I said. This is a team built to win now. If they don’t in the next two years they’re in trouble. No reason they can’t compete this year considering the weak division and that everyone will be fresh come playoff time. But if Eichel is a shell of what he was, you’ll have 4 more years at 10 against the cap and a NMC.
