Best and worst logo in the NHL?

I don't get it? Depending which logo we are talking, they have one of the best. Problem is most people have never looked closely at it. There is so much going on in that logo that most are unaware of. For instance, the eye is a star which is a tribute to their roots as the North Stars, the mouth is a river, fitting in with the outdoor wild theme of the rest and all combined into the animal head shape. It's pretty brilliant by comparison to most.

Agreed, Minnesota have great logo, imo.

It's not the deeper meaning it's the surface image people look for in logos. It's something quickly recognizable that grows on you in time. The KISS principle applies to logos IMO.

That said, tough to keep it simple when your named the Wild. I've never cared enough to look closely at the Wild logo as the image never appealed to me, but now that I understand the meaning I can appreciate it more but still think it's a bit of an eyesore... this coming from a North Star fan who was sad to see that logo go

The best logos are definitely the simple, classic, no deeper understanding required to appreciate but if it's there okay, type. You shouldn't need to understand some overarching history to appreciate it, it should say who you are and what you play for to anyone who sees it or wants to be a fan. Hockey fans in Europe looking for a team to cheer for in the NHL aren't going to want a history lesson to understand what's going on, the running theme here and any other logo ranking I've seen is, simple, recognizable, and classic, no one likes a busy or artistic rendering on their jersey.

Classy, simple, iconic, shields of your team

:cbj:wild:nashville:coyotes:panthers:canes

Busy, picture like, overall just ugly logos, just doesn't give me the feeling of history or class that the other ones do. Buffalo tried going the picture way with the angry goat and the buffaslug and received massive backlash for messing with a good thing. If you're going to replace a classic, it better be with an absolute mastepiece, otherwise fans will hate it, no matter what.

If people aren't aware of what's going on in a logo, it's not a good logo.

Blasphemous. Chicago is the gold standard of team logos, and I hate the team, but you can't hate on such a classy and clean logo and jersey

I like the team, but the color happy logo is just meh. A logo with more than 3 colors used is by design flawed. As for Chicago's, it's a classic by now, still meh.

And it's still awful, just as bad as the new Jets logo.

Best: Detroit. Classic logo and i like the colors Worst: Carolina. I realize you can't do much given the nick name of the team, but it's just not a good looking logo.

I pretty much agree, i like Carolina's 3rd jersey logo (and 3rd jersey all together but that's offtopic).

In terms of graphic design, Washington (not the eagle but the one with the hockey stick) and Carolina have the worst logos. However, Chicago win that contest hands down with their racism. Ottawa, Minnesota, Columbus and Anaheim aren't too pretty.

I like Philadelphia, Calgary, Edmonton, Boston, Toronto, Detroit and NYR.

There's nothing racist about it. At all.

Minnesota has one of the best logos. I feel like I've entered Bizarro world when I clicked this topic.

Ive always loved The Red Wings, the Habs, Flyers (hate them love the jersey's...its the Orioles fan in me haha) Boston, obviously the Devils, and the 2 best ever with the Nordiques, and the North Stars. I could see how people could like the Rangers logo (regular not the hideous lady liberty ones) but my hatred runs too deep to ever like it haha.

The ugliest logo's for me are the Wild which has cool concepts but it is far too busy. And the Hurricanes, always have hated the Canes logo's.

I always thought Chicago's was awesome as a kid, but now that I've realized it is symbolic of sexual assault and the white man's systematic obliteration of native american culture, I've since moved it into the bottom 5.

Top 5:
WSH - all current versions
ATL Thrashers
Anaheim Mighty Ducks Alternate
VAN
CAR - hurricane warning flag alternate

Best Logo: [Insert my team here]

Worst Logo: [Insert the team(s) I despise the most here]

Seems to be more like

Best: Original 6

Worst: Sunbelt teams.

For the record, I don't particularly see why other than for nostalgia reasons everyone loves Original 6 logos. There's nothing special about them. I have often thought Montreal logo for instance is really boring.

I like the howling coyote of Arizona, and the sabre - toothed predator of Nashville.

I think most know what is going on in the logo, but find the amount of "sybmolizzm" that they try to stuff in there to be overbearing and not really contribute to the overall aesthetic of the logo.

I personally have thought that logo to be the most overrated. It just doesn't look good to me and the amount of crap they stuff into the bear head doesn't make it better.

That's not the Ducks logo anymore. The wordmark Ducks logo was horrible. The current logo is an upgrade, but I agree that it's still one of the worst.

My top 3:
:blues :devils :sabres

My bottom 3:
:jets :ducks2 :kings2

Anaheim should have sticked to the Mighty Ducks jerseys and colors, and the Kings should have sticked to their blue/white/black jerseys.

I don't understand how someone could find the Devils logo to be the worst. Not the best, sure, but what makes it the worst? :dunno:

Also, the NHL generally has awesome logos. There's a fairly high bar for being at the top of this list.
