Sabres fan coming in peace. Just wanted to wish you guys well in your rebuild and congrats on getting an incredible coach. That interview man...Wears his heart on his sleeve, loves hockey history, will continue friendships with his players, what is not to love? Called Terry Pegula a superstar, it hurts! You just got the best coach in the league. May our rivalry continue!

Terry Pegula IS a superstar.

You guys have yourself one heck of an owner down there. Heck of a young team too. Hopefully we catch up before too long and the rivalry can continue in earnest.

A guy I work with had an interesting story (friend of a friend, take it fwiw). His buddy was attending a pre-game skate prior to a Leafs-Wings game, same day of day before, I can't remember, sitting a number of rows behind the man himself. The Wings exit the ice in strict orderly fashion and the Leaf players start coming on the ice bit by bit and Babcock's starting to get steamed. He's muttering away and actually gets up to check the corridor, like wtf's going on? He's visibly upset and swearing away, actually apologizes and starts talking to the guy, asks him if he's a Leaf or Wing fan (Leaf fan) and starts saying to him about how this bleepin' team has no bleeping disciplne, no wonder bleep bleep bleep, etc. I had to laugh, there's no doubt who the boss is going to be here.

Babcock is a great speaker. Comes across genuine and truthful. The PTS interview did was awesome. "The Ontario boys WILL come home"

mhmhm.

build it and they'll come, we always said it.

and now with Babcock here?

I am legitimately curious now how Babcock as part of the selling-team (this is what I am going to do even though Pain is here/coming) and i see you as part A-B-C with some up and coming Ontario-born UFAs.

Here's hoping that there were some jokes thrown around during the Olympics between Babcock and Stamkos/Tavares etc. about coming home later in their careers. Just so happens Babcock came earlier than expected :naughty::naughty:

Congrats on getting Babcock, he is a winner and we will see how long he tolerates losing.

He has said that it's a process and he understands that. In fact, he wanted to make sure Shanahan and the executives understood that as well before coming here. I wouldn't lose sleep over how he tolerates losing. If we lose, we lose. As long as they're playing hard every game.

If we are going to be serious (serious face time) - I think it speaks volumes that Babcock is saying something that most Leaf Fans/media have been saying for ages. (I can't really ever see management saying this). We always go "Toronto/Ontario" born players are going to want to come home (especially now with the UFA age being a lot lower than it was - 26-27-28 vs. 31 and higher) and it never happens, but we always keep wondering and thinking it.

Babcock hasn't lied one iota. He said - he didn't really think Toronto had a chance (and the offer was always on the table), then he thought about it, and then he was like, hey - why not the Maple Leafs. and if he is going to be all about making it safe for players, winning, and stuff (while sticking to the process). to make it desireable for Ontario-born/Toronto born players to want to come here? Well why not?

it might not be those two but a Toffoli? A Domi? a McDavid (not even going to lie on that one seven years and counting on that contract )? the man is here for 8 years and he is committed to make this a winner along with the management staff. we'll really have to see what happens (especially if Babs is asked to coach team Canada/team young stars at the World Cup, and 2018 Olympic team)

if we're successful, they will come home. and i think Babs is gonna make this his new mission. (and earn his Cherry Kiss lol)

I am giddy with excitement about how Babs is going to change the culture in TOR.

Shanahan, Babcock, and company may create a consistently winning team in Toronto. They may not. Time will tell.

Quennville is paid $2.75 million/season, Todd just got $3 million per for 5 years. Our coach is getting $6.25 per on average although I think 24 million comes in the first 3 years. So yeah, Babs is paid very, very well.

Nice of Don to raise expectations and say we will be competing for a playoff spot next year. Thanks Don. Goes right along with "this will take time". Thanks a lot.

One thing is for sure though....

They won't do as good as Brian Burke did. Or would have done. Or something like that.

I forget where we left off.

Ok haven't read all the threads and seen all pressers, and if this has been posted already apologies.

Just thinking though, must be a bit of an awkward situation for a newly hired coach.... the first thing you'd do is talk to the team Captain and the leadership core etc etc.... but this roster is a delicate situation that may be dismantled.

I find it telling that he never mentioned core guys to carry the team going forward. He often speaks with reverance abut datzuk, zetter and kronwall (not trying to compare them to any of our guys),... but no mention about the current high priced horses on his club.

After about 35 years of misery interspersed with brief moments of success, hearing Babcock do his interviews was the most excited I've been about the Leafs for a long while.

Same here. I said to my wife: "I'd run off a cliff for that guy."

He's pretty inspiring.

I want Stan Butler as the other assistant coach.

Man is a genius on the defensive end side of the game. He makes even the most one-dimensional players into strong two-way players, and coached probably the best defensive team in the CHL.

He would be a perfect compliment. Babcock brought in a PP specialist assistant, why not bring in a defensive specialist too. He is 59 though, so he wouldn't exactly fit into the "youth movement" in the coaching department.

This guy is so real! The real is back in toronto and I love it! <3 Be joyful leafs fans this is our time the next ten years! Others will be jealous but that's good. We just have to be cool. We can do whatever we want now. Cause were rich and all those others are not.
