Speculation: At what price would you consider re-signing Barrie?

If there was any indication he could be what we brought him here to be, I would not pay him more than Rielly. $4.99M/1- or 2-years.

And only as a last resort having whiffed on Pietrangelo.

You're going to pay 5mil for a player to sit on the 3rd pair and do f*** all?

0$. He brought nothing the club needed. You don't take him back for the same reason you don't trade for him in the first place. Another relatively soft offensive dangler on a team infested with soft danglers. If you had two Muzzins and no Rielly there would at least be a place. He was a gamble that didn't pay off and you don't double down on that. Thay need goal preventers, not more scorers.

FWIW it seems like there is interest in the guy from some western clubs so he may get a better deal than many are expecting.

Ya, I'm with duffman. I don't "hate" a lot. I don't like spending my time and energy pointing out something negative. There's not many players from the Leaf's history that I "hated". Heck, I still don't hate the trade that brought him here.

But I hated Barrie by the end here. He was noticeable in a good way only a handful of times all season. I remember him looking like he cared when Keefe first arrived, for like 3 or 4 games. The rest was either invisible, notably bad, or just taking a space away from someone who would have done better. Like PP time from Morgan, or playing time from Sandin/Lil.

Barrie was the prime example of a player who "doesn't fit" with a team. He never clicked with a partner, which was one of the things I remember hearing from Colorado that he was good at. He supposedly made his partners look good in his time there. But here he was a drain on everyone he played with. He made them work while he drifted aimlessly, and tossed the puck with no purpose.

Never seen a "skilled puck mover" who couldn't get it out of his own end. He's a PP specialist, and should end up with a career like Marc-Andre Bergeron. A complete waste of a roster spot here.

Goodbye, farewell and amen.

People are so dramatic, he wasn't bad for us almost the minute Keefe took over the team.

No idea what price I'd pay for him, but not wanting him back at any price? Smh. I get him shooting into every shin pad imaginable was annoying as hell and his defense was average at best, but this is why we can't have nice things.

The PLD OT goal is all you need to watch to see that he has no clue how to defend. Add that he has absolutely no grit to his game and it is easy to understand why most prefer not to have him back. Everybody understood he was another Jake Gardiner but we didn't even get enough offensively out of him to cancel out the deficiencies in his own end. Having said that, I'd consider a 1 year show-me contract at the same cap hit (2.5). With covid, it might be the best chance for him to earn his next big contract.

He would be fine as a bottom pairing defenseman.

After this year, I'm sure he has no interest in signing for $1M but you'd be foolish not to take that contract.

I mean, there's certainly amounts where you re-sign him, but he's definitely getting more in UFA than he's worth to us, so not sure why it matters.

Wouldn't even if he played for free. Barrie is far more suited on a well structured defensive team that is in desperate need for offence.

No way I would ever want him back not even at league minimum. Dubas has to get actual defensemen, hard competing bottom players and move one of the big soft contracts. And probably a goalie now too. He is gonna have a busy off season.

Awful under Babcock
Good under Keefe
Poor in the play-in

I don’t want him back. Enjoyed watching him far more when he wasn’t a Leaf. I want him to go back to being one of my favourites to watch

In a vaccum the Leafs would get value of he was 2 mil or less.

But in terms of style he's not wanted and the team really needs to allocate its capspace to guys better suited for the teams needs
