even if he is overhyped a bit, which he probably is

still surprising they couldn't afford 600k, even on a 1-way

are y'all really that close up on the cap?

600k for at worst a 6/7 guy isn't all that bad or am i missing something?
It's not just the 1 way thing, I got the impression he wanted assurances he'd not be sent down and the Flames already have 4 defensemen that play the right side, adding a 5th doesn't make a ton of sense.

Knew it was coming, but it's disappointing our 4th best defenseman last year couldn't be re-signed for 600k. Treliving is a disaster with anything involving depth.

I'm glad he's sticking in the NHL. I was worried he wouldn't have even gotten an NHL contract.

This 4th best defenseman garbage needs to quit. The guy is borderline NHLer at best for **** sakes

#4 defencemen aren't forced to take league minimum contracts less than a week before the season starts.

I like Nakladal and wish him all the best. If we could have kept him I would've liked us to, but he wasn't our 4th best defenceman.

Well i think we found this seasons Byron.

There was no need for a guy like Nakladal. He's a decent bottom pair guy but the Flames have enough of those and can fill it internally.

Would have a hard time calling anybody on the 2015-2016 Flames a 4th "best" defenseman. They were all pretty bad. Though I didn't mind Nak, good on him for getting a NHL deal.

Still don't see the light for the Oilers this year, although they might finish ahead of Van. No idea what we'll see from LA and Anaheim, but the Pacific is pretty clearly still the weaker one. Flames need to have a lot better record in Division if they want to make the playoffs, but it looks like we'll at least have goaltending up to par.

No, but we didn't have a #4 last year. We had a couple #7s (Smid/Engelland), a few #6s (Kulak/Wotherspoon/Jokipakka) and three #5s (Russell / Wideman / Nakladal). Nakladal was the best #5 we had, but unlike Russell / Wideman he lacked the "proven" factor due to his contract status (waiver-exempt ELC) and his unique Makarov-esque rookie status.

If all Nakladal is, is a solid #5 I am fine with that statement. But that still made him our fourth best D. IMO.

Now that said it's true bottom pair defensemen are replaceable and finding a true #4 is more difficult. I have hopes that Kulak's newfound strength from a second offseason of working with Ryan Van Asten lets him win enough battles to establish himself as a #4 though I think he is still a year away in that regard. I am happy for Nakladal that he found a well deserved NHL opportunity.

Makarov-esque? That has to be the dumbest thing I have ever read on HF, my god the overrating of Nakladal has me glad he's gone.

I think that was a simple comparison of age and calling Nakladal a "rookie but not a rookie because of the Makarov rule"
Either way, Jokipakka at the very least was better than Nakladal, so this #4 ******** is nothing more than fantasy

Hah. Oddly enough, I read that OKG post and was like; 'I hope everyone knows the Makarov rule, and no one thinks that he's comparing a depth dman to a guy who was part of a huge dynasty and a key cog in the red machine.'

Was not disappointed.

Parenteau on waivers. RH RW, $1.25M caphit for one year, coming off a 41 point season with the Leafs.

I know he's exactly what you'd call a "complementary player" but surely not a complete passenger. Worth a shot on our top line instead of Chiasson/Shinkaruk/etc?

Parenteau is slow and poor defensively. He's a worse version of Hudler

Detroit fans didn't seem happy when Frk was waived "instead" of Pulkkinen... might be worth it but wouldn't expect much.

If Michalek wasn't making 3.2, I would've had interest there. Unless he's really gone down hill last year.

waiver porn today, a mix of proven vets and formerly promising young players.

Pulkkinen can be a decent complementary offensive winger, which might be something we need if Ferland doesn't progress. I'm not sure how Conacher looked in camp for TB (I thought he was tracking to make the team?) but htat's another similar option to Pulkkinen.

Pass on Pulkkinen, never been a fan, one trick pony. I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Parenteau.
