Ffs Batista, just sign already nobody likes you as it is. Don't try and weasel monies you don't deserve out of the only place in the world you have some friends.

A Jay Bruce trade that involves Smoak feels like it makes a lot of sense right now.

The Saunders AAV will probably be a comparable for what salary the Jays would need to take on so hoping its low

Pearce is coming off arm surgery. You probably dont want him in the outfield for the first few weeks or even a month. His defense at 1B has been top 3 over the last 3 years. He is better suited at 1B.

Saunders deal is $10M guaranteed, so any Bruce trade is going to have minimal, if any salary retention unless you throw in some decent prospects.

Not at all for the Mets.

It's a way of paying down some of Bruce's salary without directly giving the Jays money (which they'll have to do to get rid of Bruce). It gives them a bit of insurance behind Duda, who missed 115 games with a back injury last year. It gives them a bat off the bench.

I think it makes perfect sense for them.

Saunders was worth 1.4 fWAR in 2016 and projects for 0.7 in 2017.
Bruce was worth 0.9 fWAR in 2016 and projects for 0.4 in 2017.

Let's be generous and put Bruce's value at 75% of Saunders... so $7.5 million. He's making $5.5 million more than that in 2017.

Already have too many corner infielders. Reyes is a 3B now, Wright is a 3B\1B. Plus Ty Kelly 3B\1B on the 40-man, and Dom Smith on the 40-man (their Rowdy).
