Like why not try Ruutu in the shootout basically ever, considering he was so good at them before he became a Devil? I guess Ruutu just isn't one of Pete's "guys."

He didn't score against NYI when Pete used him.

So obviously that was his only chance. :shakehead

He'd rather go to Henrique (1 of 12). As stupid and silly as this sounds, I feel like myself and half the guys in good beer leagues could go 1 of friggin 12 in the NHL. Dead serious.

Nobody on this team ever tries something different in the shootout. Gomez has one move that people now know about. Elias has his that rarely works. It's just so damn predictable. Nobody on this team outside of Cammalleri can pick a corner. Zajac misses the net half the time. Josefson has his one move that's worked once and hasn't since. If you're the opposing goalie, who the hell would you worry about?

I mean I think Henrique could get good at the shootout. I think he has the skills to do it (he is good on breakaways).

Still when we are fighting for wins we shouldn't be relying on him while he figures it out.

Pete is just so inflexible about everything. Outside of benching kids and throwing the lines into a Pachinko machine, he doesn't tweak anything.

If the roster can't carry out his system, then he needs to adjust the system because the point is to at least attempt to win. It has been clear for a long while, the same thing isn't working. Try something new!

And 2 defensemen in OT.

Might take 12 more shootout losses to change that.

Cause god forbid we give up breakaways in OT.

Shootouts is pure luck according to some posters on this board. Seems like our "bad luck" from last season is still around... :shakehead :sarcasm::help:

Jagr is the exception to the rule of a 'normal' hockey player. He wants to train and play all the time. Is he married and or have kids? The fathers on the team want the three day christmas break to spend with their families.

I love watching everyone complain about off days and practices.

First off, in the new CBA you need a certain amount of off days with no hockey activity. The Devils have maybe the most packed schedule and they have played the most games. When you have games Friday/Saturday/Tuesday, Sunday is ALWAYS going to be a day off. It's in the CBA.

Secondly, with the optional practices.... Has anyone seen the injured list for this team? Add to that the guys we know are playing with issues... Jagr, Gelinas (hand), and others. Guys are constantly banged up and if you can give them a break, you do it.

I'll be the first one to slam DeBoer for anything and I've been on the fire bandwagon for a while now... but we should at least be accurate in what we complain about.

The system is all about puck possession. We have no puck possession. Not sure what your issue is.

And it is on this very point Pete should get ankled. I have been in his camp all last season, because the system seemed to work and we had good buy in from the players.

We just were snakebit on the shootout.

But this year the very thing he hangs his hat on is second to last in the league...well you gots to go.

Seven players out, mumps, road schedule, tough buildings, bad puck luck...whatever...we aren't playing Devils hockey.

i am totally off caring whether debeor gets fired or remains the rest of this season... his position is just one of several moves that have to take place in the next 7 months before the start of next season, it really doesn't matter at this point who is at the helm... this roster is such trash and we are looking at big changes i hope, coaching just being one of them, so the timing at this point is irrelevant , a coaching change may have made sense 3 weeks ago when this team was still in the hunt for a playoff spot. i think lou's non action in this area speaks volumes as to where he thinks this team is for this year and next

i just hope he doesn't wait until the very last minute to make trades and find himself scrambling to unload a few guys... the trades need to start happening after xmas and i think you will start to see a few moves before deadline.....

as you point out there was no bad puck luck we don't have the puck enough to use that excuse... and the key to any team anyway is depth injuries happen the devils did not and do not have quality depth and as soon as they starting getting hurt it was highlighted....to highest level. need to hit the reset button get some picks/prospects and start the slow road to recovery the foundation is in place on d and in net...good start

Ill make it short: Our goal this year was to be comptitive. We kept Pete, hired old geezers through UFA and kept youngsters in press box. Didnt work out.

Now we should aim for future. Means we get a good coach with the kids, trade old geezers for picks, anyone who is over 30 now. Aim to be contenders in 2018. If we try to hotfix the team again for next year and go try to contend again, im seriously going to consider starting to root for a western team.

Its ok to suck for a year or two during rebuild, it is not ok to suck while "contending".

If there's anybody on the team who looks like they need a break, it's Jagr.

I'm not sure if he's hiding or nursing a minor injury because of our poor forwards situation, but he's looked increasingly worse the last few weeks, really since late November.

Out of all our players, he has frustrated me the most lately.

I'm not alone, last night I heard chatter of fans around me displeased with him.
One guy was saying something to the effect of "there you go Jagr, skate around the corner and do nothing with the puck until Carolina takes it away from you".

Pete can't do anything about that and what can he say to Jagr?
If Pete chooses to battle #68 he will lose.

Pete doesn't have to play Jagr for 25 minutes, he has plenty of say.

Playing Camm for 25-1/2 minutes is moronic too especially when the guy just came back from a groin injury.

I actually thought we had good depth at the start of the year, at the NHL level at least.

Problem is, our roster is so fragile that the injuries have shot past the depth.

Also hasn't helped that Boucher and Matteau have started so slowly. Those would be the obvious AHL call ups.

Well Boucher was called up multiple times and the last time he got called up, he didn't look so good.

I'm still waiting for Matteau to get his first *EVER* call-up so let's not lump him in with boosh as if he hadn't done jack with his "shot" with the big team.

thats a good point...Camm comes back and plays that much, but their excuse for not playing LArsson the other night was because they had to ease him back.

i agree this is the first time i have had no interest in contending for the following season...there is no fix to this team other than strip down... the handwriting is on the wall and it is in bold sharpie

28+ for Zids and the amount of time Harrold got was a complete disgrace.

i think you should all stop dwelling on the minutes zidlicky and harrold get.... they are not in the long term plans here. debeor is just doing whatever he thinks gives this team the best chance to win on any given night.

peter harrold is just someone you all like to pick on , he does his job, zidlicky is still an offensive minded defensman and this team is starved offensively so the coach plays him a ton. i don't imagine zidlicky is on this team next year so who cares at this point. larsson is coming off illness i didn't expect him to get 25 minutes considering they were dressing 7 d
