Was watching the Hopman Cup highlights a bit this week. Kerber seems to be in-form again, while Fed must be considered a strong contender to retain his AO crown from last year.

Fed's match against Sock was a lot of fun. Just a "friendly," really, but a lot of exceptional tennis was played anyway and all in good humour.

Great start for Nick winning Brisbane and looking aggressive and controlled while doing it. Backhand seems to be coming along, too, not a weapon yet but moving in the right direction and helping him set up points.

Shapovalov gets his first win of 2018 with an easy victory over Dutra Silva. Sets up a fun matchup vs Del Potro in R2.

So Andy bit the bullet and got the surgery. Hopefully he is able to have a full recovery.

So do you guys think Roger will play the French this year or skip it again? I'm really hoping he will play.

I'm guessing he skips it again. Why mess with success? And another Wimbledon hardly seems out of the question at the moment.

Roger has usual blows up my predictions real good. I predicted he wouldn't win a GS this year. Well, that didn't last long.

I'd be shocked if he plays the French Open.

Vasek is in a CH final today in Rennes. Hopefully he can stay healthy this year.

After last night's match and seeing how some people said he looked out of gas in the 4th, I agree, he will skip the French. He spent so little time on the court and was gassed going 5 on hard courts, no way he should try this at the French where he will have to grind it out.

Agreed.

If I'm Federer I have 2 more goals this season:
  • Win Wimbledon
  • Become world #1 (even if just for a short time)
Becoming #1 is possible now, I hope adds an extra tournament to his schedule to get some extra points and secure it.

Vera Zvonareva is back, still wearing her three-quarter length sleeve sweaters and stomping her foot fetchingly when something goes wrong. She took almost two years off to become a mom and she looks the part. This is in no way intended as a dig at her or at mothers in general--being a mom is damn hard work and it takes a toll that men can only imagine. She lost her second round match in St Petersburg to Ostapenko, but hopefully she will get herself in shape and start climbing back up the ladder. Always had a soft spot for her, and I certainly wish her well.
