Just read Elliot Friedman's article.

Does anybody else find it hard to believe Alfie would give up everything just because they wanted to give him $1.5-2M less than what he asked for?

In all honesty Alfie saying we're there is not all wrong, this team does have problems that we need to fix.

Our breakouts terrible

We have trouble entering the offensive zone.

Our cycle is almost non existent

Our PP is aweful, partially due the inability to cycle properly.

These are not problems for contending teams.

True this year, but i think the fact we were missing Spezz/KingK/Michalek (fully healthy) and forced to relied on guys that tooked more than half the season to get their legs going (Alfie/Gonch/Philip) maked it hard for PMac to really build a good PP.

If you noticed, all our Defensive specialist where healthy most of the year which was the main reason we were able to compete since we were hard to play against. PK GA etc.

With the addition of Ryan and let's hope a healthy Karlsson Spezz Mikalo etc i fully expect our team to go back where it belong in the to five scoring team like 2 years ago.

Now what must be done is sign the RFA we want to keep try to get a top 3/4 guy to go along with Cowen and our team is set for at least 2 years at +/- 56m. We still have plenty of young good prospect waiting in the farm and we'll be icing a younger and better team this season.:yo:

Sometimes I wish social media never existed. This whole "Melynk is cheap" and "Melynk is broke" ******** was caused by a couple of bloggers and nobodies who want to become somebodies and create a story. Sad thing is, that kind of irresponsible speculation is like rolling a snowball downhill. Get enough suckers to believe it, and sooner or later a bunch of bull causes enough panic to actually create a story. Get enough fans to bail, sow the seeds of doubt in players' minds, make the team look bad in the league....next thing you know.....well, you can fill in the rest.

Yep and posters like you trying to whitewash and tow the company line ,alfie should still be here .And thats the first thing i want from EM get our DAMNED captain back here.

Detroit is no closer than we are to a cup so him leaving for Detroit to chase one is hogwash.EM wont spend to make this team better this season and alfie called him on it

I'll relish the time when he was #11 on the Ottawa Senators.

But #11 on the Detroit Redwings will be a complete stranger. Blindsided the city and an ownership that gave him a blind check, all the while KNOWING that this would be the final year of a planned rebuild.

If this was about the insult of an initial offer (likely we can't pay you that and still afford to go after another top 6 forward (who, by the way, we're going to pay more than you)), just think about what he's done: uprooted 4 kids in school, move his family to a different country, not re-engaging Bryan Murray in a direct, matter of fact, lay all the cards on the table discussion until the die was cast......all within a matter of days.

Either a knee jerk overreaction (I'll show them...) by a proud athlete, or this had been simmering below the surface for a long while.

Contrast with Martin Brodeur who's been criticized by his peers for taking team friendly contracts his whole career. Flirted with free agency last year when the Devils made an initial lower offer but decided to re-up with the Devils. Devils increased their initial offer when they saw the competition. I doubt he regrets not signing with the Leafs.

Keep on rolling that snowball downhill.

Just don't be surprised at the aftermath.

This is a pivotal time for this franchise. Murray & Co. have made enough smart moves for us to have faith in this team. Melynk has spent a lot of money, spent to the cap most of his time here as owner, and endured enough losses to earn some trust with the fanbase.

The owner, management and players deserve some positive vibes from us right now.

The worst of it is, he didn't even bother to negotiate. Didn't tell Murray what he wanted. Didn't talk to anyone while hiding out in Sweden. You'd think as our captain he would provide more input if he saw anything wrong? Nope, tucked his tail between his legs and secretly bailed to a deal with Detroit. Nothing said to the fanbase, nothing said to the team.

Don't bother quoting me, you're delusional.

There's no smokescreen. Melnyk has sacrificed more financially than Alfredsson ever did. Thank god our owner isn't some idiot that you wishes him to be.

Considering how many bums he puts in seats and how valuable he really was yes.

Murray was so choked up in his presser calling him a friend, made me well up a little when i was really baked watching watching it, Alfie just wanted to be treated like we treat him but by the actually Senators.

now Senators are good and Alfie is bad.

he was treated like an Employee not the face of the franchise and our captain and he left like an employee who was offered below market value should.

every major news outlet is saying it was management who offended him, let's be real we give him an ego, they should have gave him whatever he wanted off the bat.

...and so will the Senators.

Eugene can move this team to Seattle in a year or two, and with ticket prices at or lower than they are here, he can make a profit in the US without having to even make the playoffs. Plus, it's el perfecto for the league as it also balances the conferences.

Think about that for a few minutes. Let it sink in. And remember just how damned easy it was for Quebec City and Winnipeg to lose their teams.

All you do is spin with no facts. All you want are short term solutions without having a brain to think of implications in the long term.

Can't argue with crazies :dunno:

there's like a 60 million dollar relocation Fee. and building up a non hockey market is not instant money. Seattle asa city didn't even show the NHL cup finals on local NBC and their basketball teasm folded because of lack of money.

It's not a slam dunk and would cost a crap ton of money to do.

Cool ,he should since according to some here we are a money losing team .Why any owner would want to keep us here is beyond me .Or have posters like you fight so hard to keep his public image clean as you have done many times:laugh:

It's a more likely option than Eugene selling the team, the arena and (possibly) the land around it to another billionaire willing to barely break even.

I'm over it, his loss. We have debatably the best player in the world, two amazing goaltenders, one of the deepest prospect pools in the league, the reigning jack adams winner, a fast, abrasive, deep, young, skilled, tough hockey team. This is Eriks team now, thanks for all the great memories and amazing moments alfie but we could never get over the hump. Onto the karlsson era now we will get our cup.

not really because if he went to Seattle he'd have a team in a building he doesn't own and a building he owns with no team.

This thread has devolved fast.

I don't know why Im responding to your "he'll take our Sens to Seattle" threat. but here she goes.

First of all Bettman will not let teams (especially Canadian ones) go now. Hell look how hard he's fought to keep phoenix, and how he brought back a franchise to Winnipeg.

I believe the Sens messed up initially in negotiation and were too slow to make amends.
