Chiasson needs a new start and he looked better in the Western Conference with Dallas. Maybe he can regain some of that.

IDK - it's a nothing move. Chiasson wasn't going to do anything for us. This guy might not either but he's not being paid $1-2 million.

Patrick Sieloff ... light/middle weight smaller Boro. Hard to see why he even got drafted and what he brings to the table for the Sens to accept him in a deal. Probably a number dump for Calgary.

On the other hand he is a goal a game D in the NHL.... :sarcasm:

Given that we're losing Wiercioch, it's nice to see the organization is being fastidious in replacing its 'defenceman named Patrick' quota.

Flames were quick to lock up their new acquisition, haha.

Didn't really have a choice since they had to qualify him by 5PM and I'm pretty sure Chiasson was willing to sign at the qualifying amount.

I'll take it.. Sieloff could still make the NHL as a bottom pairing D I'd give him better odds of contributing than a 5-7th rnd pick would.

Chiasson was useless moving forward you can't be touted as a young power forward then play with zero power in your game. Glad he isn't taking up a forward spot I imagine whoever fills it will be able to play with more intensity than this guy.

He sounds more mobile than Boro. So maybe that's something they'd look at down the road if he can develop a little more and Boro's contract is expiring.

It sounds like the Sens weren't going to qualify Chiasson but still tried to find him a home. As long as they didn't get a roster contract back it was a win for the Sens in that case. The 800k deal proves that Calgary didn't want him at his $1.2M to $1.3M qualifying offer either.

My scouting report on Sieloff

- awesome at holding the defensive blue line and will explode for the big hit
- okay skater, not afraid to handle the puck against a forecheck and skate to an open area
- very good breakout pass, usually tape to tape passing off his forehand
- defensive zone positioning is a work in progress, but he's only just turned 22
- makes some pretty terrible pinches at the neutral zone red line, but that's workable.
- in the offensive zone, he's got a good sense for pinching and holding the puck in
- lacks creativity in the offensive zone
- shot is not NHL calibre, although he has more goals per game than Alex Ovechkin.

Overall you've got a modern defensive defenseman - not an offensive player but a guy who can drive puck possession. You'll have to live with some of his adventures as he grows, his actual experience as a hockey player are comparable to many 19 year olds due to the injuries he's dealt with. Still has a shot at being a #5 / #4 but will never ut up more than 10-15 points.

Oh, and btw, Sieloff has a year left on his ELC.

Between Sieloff and drafting a 6'6" kid with our 1st rounder, Aragorn will need to walk around town with a pillow in front of his crotch for the next 3 weeks, or at the very least tape it down before leaving the house.
