I was thinking similarly, getting that number below $5M is definitely good on a short dealBob says
Tyson Barrie is signing for between 4-5mil for 3 years.
That’s a win

That's a fair concern, but I think the plan for the team this year is to have Bouchard be an NHL regular, he show (in limited time) that he can play at the NHL level successfully last year. Plus having Barrie allows them to bring Bouchard along more carefully as an offensive defenseman and PPQB, with succession plan being something like Barrie 75% Bouchard 25% for the PP this year, probably 50/50 next year and Bouchard(if all goes well) getting 75% to Barrie's 25% in year 3.If we could get Barrie back on a 3 year, 15 mil deal I’d be content. I think the chemistry the first unit had would only improve.
The fear of it blocking Bouchard’s development - I think we’ll see more of what they did for the end of the year, where they swapped everyone out on the PP for the final 30-40 seconds except for McD and Drai (if the puck was cleared).
Bouchard won’t get prime minutes, but with his clapper, he only needs one chance.
