So that's one gimmick team likely through to the SF.

And another one tonight, followed by the hopeful elimination of the US.

Hilarious.

Their game with the Czechs should not really count, if there is a three-way-tie with EU and Canada, right? Shouldn't the tie-breaker be based on the games of those three teams? So unless EU is completely blown by Canada in the last game, the US would need a big win tomorrow.
Doesn't matter, I was wrong. OT wins count as less than regulation win. So if USA can win both in regulation, they go on.

If USA wins against Canada (has to be in regulation), they need to win big (or destroy the Czech's in the final game).

Canada is +6
Europe is +4
USA is -3

Regulation wins trump OT wins, so US need not worry about goal difference. They just need to win two hockey games.

worst result possible for the US. They need to pound Canada, not just beat them with 1 goal.

If fairness losing talent from what is now Slovakia is a big reason.

Nope. Junior development was put on the back-burner. It wasn't until Lener arrived that it was restarted.

The current generation of players who make up most of the national team (Palat, Hertl, Jaskin, Jordan, Gudas, Sustr, Kempny etc) were the guys who struggled mightily at the WJC's. So it's not really a surprise that we're struggling now. The older generation is aging (Plekanec, Krejci) and the younger guys aren't there yet (Pastrnak, Vrana, Zacha, Necas, Zboril, Zadina etc).

We'll be back. It's just a question of when

no, all goal differential comes before h2h goal differential(which is stupid) but ROW and regulation wins come before that as a tiebreaker so in a 3 way tie Europe likely loses out because they didn't beat the Czechs in regulation.(assuming the USA do)

God awful coaching decision to send Michalek + Hanzal together on 3 vs 3. What the hell were they thinking.

Why on earth didn't Czechs pull out their goalie on overtime? It would have been 4 on 3 for 5 mins.

Did they really think that they could beat Team Europe in goal difference in case of draw, especially after 0-6 loss to Canada?

Or am I missing something here?

They figured they had a better chance winning in the shootout than by pulling their goalie in OT.

The Czechs can still advance with 3pts...

But it means Canada has to lose both their remaining games.

Aren't Team Europe through now?

USA and Canada left that can qualify.

USA can only get 4 points which would tie them with USA. Team Europe would win tie breaker though.

No, if USA beats CAN and CZE in regulation and CAN beats Europe in regulation there's a 3 way tie at 4 points. All 3 teams would have 2 ROW, but Canada and USA would have 2 regulation wins while Europe would have just 1. Europe would be out.

h2h is only the tiebreaker if it's a 2 team tie, I always see people reference the h2h when they can at best tie with another team, without factoring in that a 3rd team can also be in this tie which throws out the h2h as it would always be 1-1 h2h for everyone in a 3 way tie(which is why it's not a 3 way tiebreaker)

Well Canada can only get 4 points as well if the US beats them which leads to a 3 way tie so head to head becomes irrelevant .

I have said something similiar in a other thread and I agree. We are pretty much in a rebuild stage right now, just like Finland (though Finns have better prospects).

Yeah, was thinking the same. Kempny, who did more bad than good the whole tournament, Hanzal who is slow and Michalek, who is even slower. Did Palat get some time in the OT? Some bad coaching here.
