Andy didn't tie the goalie wins record yet.

He has 36 after tonight. Eddie and Raysoft have 37.

Good job. Some ups and downs. Definitely felt the pushback. But got more goals, got the 2 points, I'll take that.

In the end helped out the Devils a bit. But making it or not is up to them :).

After that Huberdeau embellishment in the 2nd, I can't say I feel sorry for Florida... you can thank us later, New Jersey... and hey, Philly... no better way to repay us for this than by losing tonight so we can get that beautiful 'x' beside our name.

Romanuk and Millen kept egging on that the Leafs had won with 5 minutes left .. Very annoying. How many times did they say "that's a dagger to the Panthers"?

Embarrassing, they sound like a couple of highschoolers.

1 more point until the century mark :)

I can't believe, in an era with loser points, the Leafs haven't hit the century mark since the 04-05 lockout.

If the Leafs were in the Metro, they'd be leading the division

I don't think the Atlantic is the weakest division in the league.

That was a complete game by Marner.

Before I head off to get some work done, there's something I just want to mention. I loathe the way the Leafs defend empty net situations. Not only do we often put a pairing of Hainsey and Polak out there, which is pretty much a guarantee that the best we can hope for is an icing, but we are probably the most passive team in the league tactically.

Example situation from this game: The puck goes to the board, and Brown is first to the puck. It's an easy chip past the the pinching d-man, and that's what Brown does. My issue there is Matthews. He is the next guy to the puck, if he just actually tried to go get it. Instead he looks over his shoulder and takes up a passive defensive position in the high slot, and we get pressure against the net and a 4-3 goal instead of icing the affair.

There's no better way to defend against a late push than making sure the wind goes out of their sails completely with an empty netter. But not only that, we are so passive that it often becomes these pressure situations where you just hope that things go well.

I try to watch as much of other teams as I can, and to me there's a clear correlation between teams that try to ice the game with an empty netter and how they handle late pressure.
