Elite players are the ones who consistently lead their team as the best players. So if Brady and Drake are elite they better start showing it fast. Sanderson is elite, Stutzle last year was elite, Karlsson and Stone were elite, Alfredsson was elite. Brady and Drake don't belong in that tier yet.

And Demidov has star potential that is the point. He has franchise forward potential. You need at least 2 of these guys. I mean if Stutzle gets injured what do you think happens to the team? they are utterly f***ed lol.

Brady and Drake aren't carrying any offense.
Who's gonna play D on this team? They score lots they dont keep it out of the net. The make up of the forwards is fine just need more physicality. The D core needs a complete make over. Brady is elite you just hate him, he is a unicorn and a franchise level forward.

Stutzle, Tkachuk, Batherson, Pinto is a great base for forwards. You can fill in the third winger on those lines in free agency or internally.

What they dont have is a D man after Sanderson that is elite and can carry a pair. Thats what winning teams have. Two elite D pairs. Top heavy loser teams like the leafs are built the way you want the sens built.

Ottawa picks #2 who are you taking? If you say Demidov you are beyond lost.

Demidov from 5 to 2
Parekh from 8 to 3
Dickinson 7 to 6
Levshunov stayed at 5
Buium 11 to 4
Yakemchuk 12 to 11
Silayev 3 to 12
Jiricek 9 to 14
Iginla 16 to 10

Button now has Parekh and Buium as the top 2 D in the Draft (3 and 4). Its really not hard to like both these players.
Levshunov / Dickinson 5/6
Silayev really dropped ; Jiricek did as well but that is less surprising re his early season ending injury
Demidov is really talented so no surprise to me he moved up

btw not saying you should hang your hat on Button's rankings but I always check them out.

Again I'm not saying we don't need another Sanderson. I would draft Lev #2 pretty easy. That's just clearly not all we need.

Almost every cup team is top heavy and then the GM builds around his top guys to add physicality , depth, size and whatever is missing to have a dynamic complete team.

Not a big fan of Button's evaluation skills but if a team takes Demidov before the sens pick it all but guarantees a RD slips to them if they pick 7th. I dont see a scenario a team doesnt take Lindstrom either. That would leave 4 D men so unless all the righties get picked Ottawa is gonna get one.

I am not suprised to see Parehk move up based on what the scouts I have spoken to say about him. Say he might be the best player in the entire OHL this year.

So where is the big tier drop off this year?

I love watching our team win , but this year I want a player, not too far off the big club, RHD that is also BPA would be a cherry.

It'll always depend on who you ask, but the consensus tiers probably look something like:

Tier 1: Celebrini
Tier 2: Silayev/Lindstrom/Dickinson/Demidov/Levshunov
Tier 3: Catton/Helenius/Iginla/Eiserman/Parekh/Buium/Yakemchuk

Random thing I stumbled on reading an article in The Athletic about Columbus’ struggles, but apparently Don Boyd wanted to draft Kopitar when he was their head scout and Doug MacLean went with Brule instead haha.

I hope Demidov slips. Kucherov's clone all over. More suitable for North American game with a tendency to drive the play with an excellent passing ability and a big league shot.

Celebrini is not a tier one player, Demidov is. Celebrini is a clone of Phil Kessel. Fast, superb skating, excellent array of shots. Kind of one-dimensional north-south player. Excellent on a transition. But he is not going to be a super star or a huge difference during playoffs. He lucks a superstar passing game. Which Demidov has.

I’m just taking who I think the best players in the NHL will be, regardless of position.

I think the 3 Russians/Belarusians are all very strong picks.

I think Demidov is the 2nd best player available, so I’d be very happy with him.

I, personally, like Buium as the top D so I’d be pleased with him.

Of the RD I like Levshunov, and I love Saliyev’s tool kit and projectablity (LD I know)

So I guess I’d go
Celebrini
Demidov
Buium
Levshunov
Saliyev

Makes no difference really what I think, the Sens list will be extremely different, but I’d be please with any of the above at 2

I find it notable that Dean Letourneau is not included in Button's top 64. I don't know where he should be ranked but he was given a lot higher rank by many other rankings.
Bob McKenzie #32, Mckeen's Hockey #33, ISS #30 and Central Scouting (NA Skaters) #20

I wonder if he will fall in the other rankings or whether Button is just a lot lower on him.

Denver just beat UMass in 2OT 2-1. I only caught the 1st period and a bit. UMass played heavy to start. Buium wasn't a factor in what I saw.

Just caught the tail end of the 2nd BU vs RIT in time to see Celebrini's goal to make it 4-2; Celebrini has the primary assist on BU's 1st goal 1-1 so far
3rd is about to get under way. BU wins 6-3

Denver and BU both advance.
BU will play the winner of Minnesota and Omaha (later tonight)
Denver plays the winner of Maine and Cornell on now currently 1-1 after 1; Cornell wins 3-1

Saginaw wins 6-4 over Owen Sound .. Parekh +2 3 assists

I watched the overtimes and thought he was solid, but he didn't elevate his game or impose himself or anything like that. In the two periods I saw (i.e. a tiny sample size) he looked like a very trusted freshman, a guy with so-so physical attributes and with a so-so defensive game because of those so-so physical attributes, and an opportunistic, probing offensive player.

Watch a full game and look to see how he controls the pace. He’s very good but like you said it’s Junior hockey.

Parekhs skating gets hate but what I feel people don't appreciate enough is his stance. Sort of like Eichels and it helps him see everything, his head is always up.

And more appropriately Fox is another guy who isn't very fast but his head is always up and he is able to react so quickly that he is as slippery as they come even though he isn't that quick.

Parekh like Fox doesn't miss anything.

Got the same vibe. With scouts concerned about decision making and positioning I've got a feeling he won't be any more than a PP specialist. Way more appealing options at D if we're in the 7-8 range.

Sens will be sitting pretty in the 7-10 range.

Will be some very good players left.

I’d love to get either one of the Lumberjacks with our Boston 1st. I’ve really loved Boisvert’s game for the past few seasons, he’s going to be a very quality forward coming out of UND.

I watched one shift by shift. I THINK it’s the only one available on YouTube. Clearly more skilled than his counterparts so to me he’s very lackadaisical but that could be because he doesn’t need rev up a gear.

With the big list of d at the top some will obviously be studs. Just not sure which one.

Levshunov looks too stone handed for me. Silayav has all the tools. Buium looks good. Dickinson to me looks good.

Haven’t seen much of yarkemchuk (spelling?) (haven’t seen much of any of them ibviously.

This might be a good spot for a d man as well. Expectations won’t be super high because we already have a solid top 3. So the guy doesn’t need to be the best. And doesn’t need to be it right away.

Even great players get caught in bad spots and will need to rev up a gear if they want to recover.

My two biggest concerns with Parekh right now - which may be alleviated from watching him more, or through continued development - are his skating and an indifference to defending. I worry that he isn't going to have the plus-plus skating that guys like Karlsson or Quinn Hughes rely on to get away with the risks they take offensively, and I worry that he has that Evan Bouchard, "Oh, am I supposed to be defending right now?" casualness to his play on defence.
