NHL Entry Draft 2024 NHL Draft Talk

Surprised there was no thread on the boards yet. The 2024 Draft season is about to be underway, and the Senators hold two first round selections for this draft.



The top kids at this point are Macklin Celebrini, Cole Eiserman, Ivan Demidov, Berkly Catton and Sam Dickinson. The 2024 draft looks to be a very strong crop for defenders early on, many defenders look to find a place in the first round early on.

If I go by your very solid looking list, it appears the Sens have a decent chance at picking Badnika with it's 32nd pick overall.

Having 2 first rounders in this draft is awesome. Littered with defenders, especially RHD. Then by C.

Could have replenish the pipeline extremely well with 2 great picks in the first rounder alone.

There's also Nathan Villeneueve (born in Orleans) who plays the gritty style of game the Sens love.

By the next draft there could be new scouts , some replaced; new head scout for sure, new gm, additional analytics support. What has been the Sens flavor at the draft could be changing.

I wonder if Andlauer rehires Trent Mann after he boots Dorion.

Probably an amateur, hence the name!

There are allegations towards him that give me pause, personally. And I’m not how I fully feel about them yet. Talented player with a dark past. The person behind the player is very important to me.

Andlauer will fix that and see right thru the absence of Trent Mann or anyone qualified to take his spot. I loved how Dorion snuck into the Andlauer presser and took his picture with the execs .. He wanted to be one of the boys but he clearly was not.

It is early, but I love the play of Connelly, and I like the play of Cherynshov, and Lindstrom.

Connelly plays with such high pace, and from watching prospects over the last four drafts, pace is an important aspect of projection. His skill level is good, not elite, though. He does force passes, could indicate poor IQ, but he generates so much that I am not overly worried; however, I don't think he has high IQ, closer to average. He has been the best player in every game I have watched.

Cherynshov is just a simple and effective player, and I like that. Like Connelly, he plays at a high pace. He is physical. Generally, he attacks in a straight line with the puck, and that does worry me a bit, but usually players that do that cannot pass like Cherynshov. His passing adds a horizontal dimension to his game, and it makes me less worried about his IQ. His hands are good in tight space, but not so much in open space.

Lindstrom is big (EP has him at 6'5" & 205), and he is physical. If he sees the opportunity to crush someone, he is taking it. Unfortunately, it does not seem like he is that good at hitting. Sometimes it looked like he was going to absolutely blow a guy up, and the hit would just end up being mediocre. It's still a positive trait, no doubt. In terms of skills, he has some good speed; he can take defenders to the outside with his speed. Will he be able to do that in the NHL? Maybe not, but he can move. His hands are okay. He can sufficiently handle the puck and make plays, but he isn't going to dangle guys on consistent basis. He can generate off the rush or the cycle, plays down low/NFP on the PP. His passing is like his hands, capable, and his IQ looks good - his off puck movement seems to indicate he can anticipate and read/react.

Ottawa needs a good big mobile RHD from this draft & big fast playmaker at forward & there are a few to pick from in this 2024 draft.
