Too bad we didn’t wait til after WJC this summer. I would switch my pick for #1 to Meyers as both Behrens and Olausson didn’t look very good.

Kaut, Bowers, and Santa in that order. Not because they are necessarily exciting but any one, much less two of them becoming NHL'ers would be very big for us.

I expected a lot of risers in the polls, given the vacuum at the top of the pool with Bo and Newhook graduating, Barron and Helleson traded, and no 1st or 2nd round pick to replace them. I think it's more interesting to see whose stock fell this year despite the conditions. Only Kaut, Bowers, and Kovalenko dropped from last year, which is pretty interesting given that the pool shrank overall.

I'd say Kaut's drop is a bit unfair. Annunen is currently getting a lot of benefit of the doubt for the season he just had and the gaps in his talent. Then Meyers getting added pushed him down.

I don't know, I think it's fair to say his stock dropped partly because he's on the wrong trajectory. Clearly he's proven himself in the AHL, but I don't think he fits in our bottom six due to his play style. Bednar just likes more hustle in his lower lines, and while I think Kaut could probably play in the NHL on some other teams, he clearly won't work out here as long as Bednar's in charge.

I don't disagree on Kaut by himself (I have him ranked lower than he even got here). More or less saying his drop this year is two fold in a player getting too much credit because the shine hasn't worn off (like it has on Kaut) and one of the guys that got brought in is simply a better prospect.

I probably should add a third fold... he was overrated in last year's rankings too. No way he should have been ahead of Behrens and arguably Foudy last year.

If I’m a college recruit or khl detractor that gets to choose my location you can’t really find a better situation than the Avs. Spots available, not much to compete with for prospects, you can boost your numbers for your next contract, and play for a cup.

That’s our best avenue for finding cheap replacements since we can’t draft

Miner is underrated about five spots.
I just don't see the slightest hint of NHL talent in him. At least Zhigalov has his athleticism to carry him if he can refine his technique, but Miner just isn't an NHL prospect. I'd say he's fairly rated, just because he's in the pros doesn't mean he has any potential.

It's also quite attractive that there's minimal travel between the AHL and NHL teams.

He must not have liked the offers he was getting. Maybe he's hoping a supersenior year will boost his stock enough to coax an ELC out of somebody.

Does Weiss going back to college mean that the Avs retain his rights for one more year?
