Good question. The OUA allows 21 players to be listed on the game sheet and skate in warmups, but a coach must scratch one player before the game...so the fact that there was an extra skater on the game sheet wouldn't have been out of the ordinary for the officials or timekeepers.
As weird as it is to say, I think a net-extra player is actually easier to go unnoticed than a wrong number or duplicate number - nobody thinks to count the players on the bench or on the game sheet before puck drop.

Actually - they are suppose to count the number of players on the bench to be sure it's the same as the sheet (there are rules for being eligible for playoffs based on games played in some leagues). They are also supposed to check that the starting line-up matches the game sheet (no longer a Hockey Canada rule but it's an OUA Rule - 5.1).

It doesn't help that Hockey Canada and the OUA Rules don't explicitly say that it's 18+2 but rather it's "20 players (including two goaltenders)". This leaves it open to interpretation that you can swap a goalie for a skater and remain under 20. It should be stated as 2+18.

However, at this level - you would think everyone had learned this by now.

I know teams have dressed an injured goalie or a skater to comply with this rule. It exists in lots of leagues.

The OUA has announced some tweaks to the men's and women's playoff systems from what was originally proposed.

Women's: the top 5 teams will now make the playoffs, with a 4 vs 5 play-in game in each division (was originally top 4 in each division).

Men's: the four divisions will now be paired together for the purposes of a playoff bracket (Far East/East will make up one bracket, while Far West/West will make up another bracket). Seeding will still use division standings - top team in each division will be seeded 1-2, second place in each division will be seeded 3-4, and third place in each division will be seeded 5-6. The 7-8 seeds will just be the best remaining teams in each division pair, regardless of division.
So, top 3 in each division is guaranteed a playoff spot, with two "wild cards" to round out the traditional 1-8 brackets.
Also, both mens and women's hockey will use straight brackets with no re-seeding after each round.

Adjusted postseason formats finalized for OUA winter league sports

"The coach of the team in which a Match; Game Misconduct; or Gross Misconduct is assessed shall submit a report via email describing the nature of the incident(s) and the rule applied by the game official, to the OUA Director of Sport Operations within 48 hours of the incident(s)."

And this: "Coaches must ensure that players who receive a penalty calling for a suspension begin serving that suspension immediately."

That's all there is on the OUA site

Fight in the Lakehead game last night refs gave double minors for roughing so no suspensions lmao[/QUOTE
Haha
I remember one year in December the Bison went to TBay for a couple of exhibition games. Don McKee was the coach and they had at least three fights each night…
No majors were given!!
Crazy weekend and no suspensions!!
What goes on the road stays on the road I guess!
Sounds like same rules are in effect to this day!!

Is there someone who reviews goals Brock scored on there own net tn and it looked to me like Lakehead goalie was last person to touch it but they gave it to someone else

At this level, any official scorer worth their salt should verify the proper goal scorers by either referring to video replay or asking the team personnel. Especially on a weirdo play like that goal scored into their own net. I watched the clip of Brock scoring on their own net, the Lakehead goalie did bat the puck into the corner where Brock regained possession, #23 Brock passed the puck from the right point into the Lakehead corner, #4 Lakehead was there and appeared to make a very brief touch but didn't get possession. Brock took over the puck and moments later put the puck into their own net via an errant pass. The boxscore has that goal awarded to Lakehead #4 which I would personally agree with based on the video clip.

Many think that "the numbers that the Referees give the scorer is final" but anyone who has ever worked as an official scorer at any level well knows that mistakes and omissions are made with the numbers reported from the ice. It's the official scorer's job to make sure the goals and assists are fully correct.

The playoff field in the OUA is getting close to set: Lakehead and RMC are both officially eliminated from contention, which leaves one spot up for grabs in the OUA far west/west side of the bracket.
Guelph is the closest to the bubble; they sit ninth and will need at least 6 of 8 available points to stay alive. York and Western are also teetering, but currently in - Western can clinch with a single point in their game against Guelph tonight. Laurier and Waterloo can clinch today in a number of different ways, even though this is Waterloo's bye week. U of T is about to win their third game in a row, solidifying their position and keeping alive their shot at hosting in round 1. Should be an exciting finish, as always, in the west!

Quick correction: Lakehead is not officially eliminated - they could still get in if York loses both their remaining games against Ryerson, or if Laurier loses their four remaining games in regulation.

Some more clarification in the OUA West playoff picture after the Sunday games.

Seven teams have now clinched: Windsor, Laurier, Waterloo, Western, Ryerson, Brock, and Toronto.

Guelph, Lakehead, and York are fighting for the final spot. LU is in the clubhouse with a .406 point %. Guelph currently has a .286 pt%, with three home games left (WLU and Windsor twice). York has a .429 pt%, with two games left (vs Rye, at Rye).

LU gets in if York earns one or fewer points in their final two games, plus if Guelph earns no more than 5 pts in their three remaining games.

York gets in with two points in their two games with Ryerson.

Guelph gets in with wins in their final three games, plus York earning one or fewer points.
