I think it’s also quickness of decision making. Right now he’s looking like a banger, which is fine if he can be effective while he learns to take the next step.

Mann described him as a guy who needs a while to ‘get’ the next level of play before being able to bring his scoring talents to bare, so that’s likely what we’re seeing when he’s playing against NHL talent.

Whether he gets enough rope, or has that next gear, remains to be seen.

Yeah he certainly looks slow to make decision out there. Seems he’ll identify his man a little late and then not have the speed to recover and get there in time.

If he’s going to try to be a banger in the NHL until his confort level rises and he can use his skill (which seems like a smart way of making the league) then he needs to show more aggressiveness, determination and desire to finish opponents hard.

Oh, Ben Roger is going to play in the AHL next year? Interesting. I think he'll bust as he was not a very good pick but it will be interesting to track him there and see how he does.

We have a pretty deep group and, as you've alluded to, he hasn't shown to be more than an OK OHLer.

It seems like the group in the AHL will likely be:
Larsson - JBD
Rubens - Thomson
Heatherington - Guenette
Aspirot

That's 5 guys who played NHL games last year, plus Guenette and Aspirot - both of whom the organization seems somewhat high on, and both of whom were pretty solid AHLers last year. And at least one of those guys will not play every night.

Camp will be good for Roger but I would be shocked if he earned a spot. If he does, he will definitely be playing games in the ECHL. Maybe the team decides that will be a better test of if he deserves a contract at the end of the season? He is certainly not guaranteed to get one.
