At the Bulldogs game tonight. Thomas is looking awesome. Wait till you see the assist on the Hamilton’s 4th goal. Gorgeous

Long shot here but has anyone seen Niko Mikkola play this year? I know he signed a two year contract. Can he get out of that contract at the end of the year?

Seen one game and he wasn't noticeable, which isn't a bad thing.

He can get out of the contract, and I'd expect that to be the case over the summer. This season things were a complete mess because of our AHL situation, but next season we'll have control over the operations in San Antonio.

Noel had an assist in their first playoff game. But boy did he ever get schooled on the first goal. I think he left his jock way in the corner.

In an Athletic column today about Foley, he says next year’s plans are “completely up to St. Louis.” Sounds like he intends to go pro after this season.

Encouraging to hear. Part of my worry about that trade was that Winnipeg thought Foley didn't want to sign and enter free agency.

Watching Tappara playoff games and Mikkola is flying. He's like Parayko. He has just extremely good wheels such a long tall dmen and has offensive mind, likes to carry the puck at o-zone and push hard when change for it. Best part of his game is nastiness, he reminds of Ed and Bortuzzo when he plays d-zone. Parayko legs and mentality like Ed and Bortuzzo. Dreamy :naughty:

He had in game one 22:31 TOI and 2nd game 19:34 TOI. At first he had almost 4min more icetime compare to 2nd player who had most icetime.

I'm just gonna say we're gonna love him when he comes to NA. Big suprise.

One thing is good he can play both sides LD or RD spot. I like how quietly he has become this good and really coming like black horse in to summer camp.

Hopefully he can transition that game to the smaller ice. If so, then we've got a gem on our hands again.

I tried to watch and couldn't find a stream. I ended up watching the Kärpät game again. Bizarre seeing Hakanpää being so heavily relied upon, even when they were down 3-0 in the last game he was always out there in the last 5 minutes.

So good to hear. Could really use another gem. Things are setting up nicely for the next few years

Having another heavy dman could potentially open the door for Schmaltz to stick around a bit longer. Obviously we like to pair offensive guys with stay-at-Home partners, but we also really don’t want to sacrifice physicality. Well, that makes it hard to take Bortz out of the lineup, but if Mikkola was playing that role from the left side instead of the right, then Schmaltz could potentially slide in there as a bottom-pairing PP specialist of sorts. Idk, just spitballing here

Good Athletic article on Stevens today - B Armstrong said he projects him to be a 7th forward in the NHL. Hopefully we get him signed.

Outside of JBow and Gunnarsson, the rest of the dmen are gonna reach career rights in points. Especially with the way Bortuzzo is playing this year, barring a major injury next season. He might end up out pricing the blues if he hits FA next summer. He is playing well beyond his 1.15 mil contract.

This is about what I would expect him to be if he makes the NHL.

I never understood how people project him as a 4th liner or state how he plays a heavy game. From everything I've seen of him, it couldn't be farther from the truth. That isn't to say he strives away from physicality, but there is no way his game resembles that of a physical bruiser. He reminds me of a poor-man's Couture in how he controls the pucks and makes use of open ice. He's intelligent and has some adequate puck skill, but I don't really find anything in his game physically that he can rely upon consistently. I like Stevens no doubt. But I do think he's a third line or nothing player.

Id be ecstatic if Stevens and Foley are 3rd line talent. Hard to believe the amount of talent in the Blues system. Most at one time in their history quite easily. And numerous roster players in their primes. If Fabbri somehow comes back in the form he was, thats even more.

Unless Stevens improves his skating, I honestly just don't see him carve out a career at on the 3rd line in the NHL. I really like him, he just lacks the ability to create much space and it will only get harder the higher he goes. Hopefully he has a good off-season and can find a step or two.
