Schrödinger's Box
When your day is long
And the night, the night is yours alone
When you're sure you've had enough
Of this life, well hang on

Don't let yourself go
'Cause everybody cries
And everybody's hurt sometimes

Sometimes everything is wrong
Now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone (Hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go (Hold on)
If you think you've had too much
Of this life, well hang on

Everybody's hurt
Take comfort in your friends
Everybody's hurt
Don't throw your hand, oh no

Don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone
No, no, no, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life
The days and nights are long
When you think you've had too much of this life to hang on

Well, everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody cries
Everybody's hurt sometimes
And everybody's hurt sometimes

So hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Everybody's hurt

Odds on Lindell making the team and been a sleeper pick at around 30-40 points?

So what will be the lines? who are the new players with a regular spot?

Well Hudler and Hamhuis are a given . Who fills in for Janmark and Eakin not so much .

Dowling or Smith have a decent shot to win the fourth center spot to start the year . So had Shore but he is still injured and that hurts his chances.

Cracknell looks like he's very likely to be the 12th-13th forward and be a regular on the fourth line or pressbox with the injuries the team has.

On defense either Lindell plays regular top6 minutes or he plays AHL imho. Keeping him up just to sit him would be stupid when he is still exempt from waivers . Right now seems like Lindell is given big minutes to see if he's ready. He played ~26 minutes last night .

Results in something like this for the opening roster :

Benn-Seguin-Eaves
Sharp-Spezza-Hudler
Roussel-Faksa-Hemsky
McKenzie-Smith/Dowling-Ritchie
Cracknell

Hamhuis-Klingberg
Oduya-Johns
Lindel-Nemeth/Benn
Oleksiak-Nemeth/Benn

Niemi/Lehtonen
Lehtonen/Niemi

Looks G Smith and Cracknell are battling for our 4th line C

I read that Smiths speed has been impressive, but I've never really seen him play some incredible can't say much. Kind of hope he makes it though. He played over 6 mins last night on the PK and we went 8-8!

Probably . Not just because of his offense though which is wierd to say about a guy who just scored 5 goals in all of his 252 games since becoming a pro. He just looks comfortable again. Last year you kind of got the sense he had no idea what he was doing on offense and just tried to do something to chip in. This year so far it looks like what he's doing is actually part of a gameplan .

Hope Nill finally makes the call to waive Oleksiak . He's been blocking better young players for long enough. If someone claims him whatever.

Even before whatever Nemeth did in the preseason, he was set to become a regular this year.

I would think there was a chance to get overtaken by younger guys if he had an awful camp and pre-season. Something that imho already happened to Oleksiak .

Lindell could have overtaken Nemeth had he impressed in camp, but as I suspected would happen, Lindell didn't light the world on fire.

Nobody should be surprised by Lindell being underwhelming. It was hilarious to see people pencil him in on the top pairing.

Agreed.

The DBD crowd didn't pencil him in, they inked him in, and now they've gotta get his name lasered off the depth chart.

To be fair we don't exactly have great options on the left side. Hamhuis and Oduya are stopgaps . Nemeth hasn't shown all that much in the NHL so far and Oleksiak even less.
While a bit unreasonable to expect a 21 year old to play first pairing minutes off the bat its not like the guys to beat out to take the spot are worldbeaters.

Looking at it now it its probably to pencil better Lindell in to replace Oduya next year and fill in this year when injuries happen. This year Honka might have a better shot to make the team since our 3rd RD is the weakest position on defense . Jordie is well Jordie and Oleksiak is just terrible even worse on the right side.

I'm kind of confused why Bäckman is still up . Barely played in pre-season , barely got talked about . I know he requires waivers but he's been even less noticeable than Lindell so far.

With Dickinson , Eakin and Janmark on IR we're down to essentially 1 roster spot left .

Doubt they'll cut a forward with only 13 healthy so between Bäckman and Lindell for 8th defenseman ?

On a different note why did we give Fountain that PTO for just 1 pre-season game ? Did the Stars need the body that badly ?

Injury insurance maybe? Hemsky and Seguin still weren't skating, if Shore had a setback Dallas could have been short on bodies. Maybe it means injuries are progressing decently? IDK, just an idea, haven't really put much thought into it tbh.

Only reason why i can see why Bäckman is still up is because he requires waivers. The team doesn't want to lose potential assets for free on waivers . We've seen that last year with Nemeth and Oleksiak riding the pine more than half the year instead of risking waivers.
