When you're wrong you're wrong.

Its gotta be a save situation in the first place to be blown. If its not the 9th inning thats not the case. Simple really..

And you're wrong.

It was a save situation and Cecil blew it. Check the box score tomorrow. Even if the Jays win this game there will be a BS beside Cecil's name.

I would like to point out that all the harping and complaining about how this typifies the Blue Jays bullpen issues are doing so in a game where the two (to this point) most successful pitchers out of the pen are ones that those same people have said shouldn't be here, and the two that had the most issues are the two in the pen that had their spots the most secure going into the season.

It would be like complaining about how the Jays have shown a lack of lineup depth while Travis and Pillar are hitting out of the bottom and it's Bautista/Donaldson that have had issues.

No, that is incorrect. Any save that is lost is a blown save, but any hold that is lost is also a blown save. The 6th inning thing is correct, but the wording was incorrect.

That's why MLB started tracking holds (because they had a negative stat for blowing one).

No, it wasn't. It was a hold situation when Cecil blew it. It counts as a blown save because he lost the save opportunity.

No its a save situation because its assumed you will complete the game.

The hold occurs when you come in for a save situation but don't complete the game (and don't blow the save obviously).

As much as this inning hurts, it happens in a season

Huh.

Well I guess I'm in the wrong.

Thought hold and save opportunities were entirely different, didn't realize if you're in a hold situation and you lose the lead it counts as a blown save. Shouldn't there be a blown hold stat?

Yes it was. It was a save situation.

Edit: If Cecil holds the lead, but doesn't finish the game he gets credited with a hold. If he blows the lead he gets credited with a blown save. There is no such thing as a blown hold.

Wrongo.

save situations are any time you enter the game as a reliever with a lead of less than 4 or when the tying run is on base, at bat, or on deck when you enter the game. You finish the game from one of those situations and it's a save. Doesn't matter what inning. You could come in in the 6th in a 1-0 game and go 6-7-8-9 and lock the game down and pick up the save.
