a couple things. 1) the 67s were a 1 player team, they were beyond terrible in every aspect. The Friars coach always rolls 4 lines. 2) No it is not reasonable, hope for it sure but expecting greatness is completely unreasonable. 3) NCAA success =/= NHL success, sure the best players are more likely to succeed but if he doesn't post godly numbers on a defensive team that rolls 4 lines it is not a reason to write him off.

True, if he doesn't post good numbers in college it doesn't mean he's a guaranteed bust. But the correlation between scoring in dev leagues and NHL success is high enough that I think it's an important indicator.

I really do want Jankowski to succeed. He seems like a nice kid, and I love an underdog. I'd be thrilled if he somehow ended up this solid top 6 forward in a couple of years. That said, I do put a lot of stock in how well a player produces in his developmental leagues, and I'm not going to bank my expectations of his NHL success on the possibility that he's one of the handful of exceptions who can put up unimpressive numbers in college/junior/whatever, and still find NHL success beyond the 4th (maybe 3rd if lucky) line. It's certainly awesome to see that he's off to an excellent start this year.

Rafikov is playing, just not in KHL - he has been sent down to MHL and already played couple of games there.
Do you have a link or anything with this information? Because according to stats on both the MHL website and the Loko MHL website he has not played in that league. I even looked for transfers to the VHL and again nothing.

weird since he doesn't show on those other sites

their own stats sheet on the same page shows nothing
http://hclokomotiv.ru/stats/loko_junior/

Actually, for KHL based players, it is a good idea to visit the KHL website's player profile page, there you can see where the player is currently assigned. At the moment, it shows 'Currently HC Ryazan' there, so that probably means that Rafikov is assigned to VHL. And yes, I now visited VHL website and Rafikov is active on HC Ryazan roster there (link to Rafikov's player profile) and has already played a game there.

About MHL, probably website's English version is not updated frequently, here is the link to Rafikov's player profile in Russian.

Wait they have an English page I could have used? I was relying on google translate

Instead of learning a second language for a prospect I do not feel is going to come to North America I am just going to add in those numbers for those leagues when elite prospects decides to add them to their website

I do appreciate the information though since I wasn't finding it

they played a midweek game?

Edit: Game 3 is really game 2. the first game was an exhibition match. Providence doesn't play game 3 until tomorrow

Hitmen got killed, but Karny played decent. Scored a goal from the slot, had several other good chances.

Roughed up a couple warriors, had a minor and fighting major. Hard cycle in the corners. Great speed thru neutral zone..

Updated. Who would have thought that Riley Bruce would be outscoring Andersson at any point? Mangiapane has come down to earth alot too, half his points were in the first 2 games.

Somehow Adam Ollas-Mattsson gained a point and lost a GP over this week.
Apparently Rafikov has been loaned to a different KHL club (Admiral Vladivostok.
Andersson finally had a 2 point night.

I guess the main prospect to watch piling up the points this season is Janko. Very excited to see what he does.

Janko finished up last season strong in the NCAA Tournament and this season he has picked up where he left off. He's doing a great job centering the top line for the Friars between Brandon Tanev and Trevor Mingoia. Impressive stats through 3 games but early on I see an assertiveness and willingness to battle in the corners that wasn't there in past years. BTW Gillies is looking good in Stockton!

Unsurprising. When we say Janko was a project from day 1, we meant project. There were parts of the skillset that the scouting staff thought would translate to the NHL, and parts that needed serious work and were identified from day 1 as such.

Year 1, he was right out of Canadian High School Hockey at 168lbs. That's as massive of a jump as going from Junior A to the NHL or at least AHL. Janko's little brother David made the upwards jump from Canadian High School Hockey to... American High School Hockey in comparision.

Year 2, he was a little bit bigger, but also had to learn the center position at a competitive level.

Year 3, he was a little bit bigger, but really was the age that most Freshmen are. Like with many freshmen, things started clicking as the season went along.

Year 4, he's a little bit bigger, but is ostensibly a true "sophomore" in the NCAA. Acciari, who was probably Providence' best all-around forward last year, was just 3 months younger in his first NCAA season than Jankowski is right now, when he scored 11 points in 33 games. The question isn't "is Jankowski as polished now in the little details as Acciari last season" but rather "is Jankowski as polished as Acciari in 2012-13". Because Jankowski still has a lot of growth to go - which is certainly unusual for a forward in the grand scheme of things, but more common for forwards who didn't come up through a typical CHL-->AHL or USHL --> NCAA --> AHL path.

BTW Gillies is looking good in Stockton!

Right now the Stockton schedule is very NCAA-esque. Will be interesting to see how he does when the schedule picks up - he's not really been tested to play a pro schedule since his draft year in the USHL.

Ya I haven't been following Stockton much, more or less just seeing the box scores and whatever PC hockey put on twitter about Gillies' progress. All I really saw is he had shutouts in 2 out of first 3 starts. And yes Janko is extremely young for a kid playing his senior year in college. This is probably the first time he's getting the chance to center between the two other more gifted scorers on the Friars as he was mostly playing 3rd line role last year behind Mauermann and Acciari.

Yep, he's off to a better pro start than I anticipated. All I'm rooting for, is for him to have a better save percentage this year than Hellebuyck

This is something I noticed too. We'd appreciate any more comments you have about Providence games which we don't get as many televised over here - obviously we're very interested in the play of Gilmour and Jankowski. I still wish Saracino were on his line though, that guy has some talent.

thanks FTH

Some great quotes from the coach in there.

“That’s the big thing -- his strength,’’ says Leaman. “He came in as a weak freshman at 170 (pounds). The next year he played at 180, then 190, and this year he’s playing at 200, 205. That’s the difference.

“He’s always had the game, but he didn’t have the strength to get to the right areas on the ice. He didn’t have the strength to hold onto pucks, to win his battles, to win his faceoffs. I think he can dominate in the traffic areas, where in the past he was getting pushed to the outside. The vision and the skill have always been there.’’

The goal he scored last Friday against Holy Cross was a good example of the strides he's made. When the Crusaders’ defense gave him room, Jankowski pounced, moving in and snapping off a 35-foot wrist shot from the middle that beat Tommy Nixon over the catching glove.

“He got to that area a bunch the last two years and he wasn’t strong enough to finish that play,’’ said Leaman. “This year he’s strong enough to finish. It’s one thing to get to that area, but then you’ve got to make the play. He played phenomenal in the national tournament last year. When you play well on that stage, you build a lot of confidence.’’

“He’s going to be a guy that’s relied upon night after night with our team. The best thing about Miami (where Jankowski put up five points in two games against the No. 15 RedHawks) was seeing him do it against a very good team, a very physical team. That was a very good sign,’’ said Leaman.

Also might mean that Bennett is a winger.

I still think it's early to jump that gun. The flames have developed everybody, including Granlund as a center until they have to make a choice. Then let the pieces fall into place. Countless permutations and we'll probably see the coach throw them all into the blender, but:

Gaudreau-Bennett-Granlund - The Toedrag Line
Poirier-Jankowski-Monahan - Shutdown/Cycling Line
Ferland-Backlund-Klimchuk - Secondary Scoring Line
Bouma-Arnold-Hathaway - Energy Line

I'd like to see a speedy bottom 6 guy like Mangiapane or Agostino in the mix somewhere too of course.
