But is he smiling? What is his VO2?!?

Seriously though this thread went off the deep end in a hurry.
I love how half the bullshit people post on here to get to 50,000 posts gets a pass, but pointing out VO2 max recovery of only 9 beats after 60 seconds is pretty much unheard of for any non obese/non heart condition person is "going off the deep end."

You don't use crap like the VO2 test to determine if someone is a good athlete. Like many other combine tests, you are looking for extreme outliers that may point to a problem or something you want to investigate further. Bet your ass only recovering from 194 to 185 bpm after SIXTY seconds is an outlier. It's so ridiculous I remain confident it was a measurement error. With that said, it's idiotic to mock people for talking about it. As you did.

Because this is insane over analysis missing key pieces of information about a kid that you are not privy to his health or fitness history.

Honestly it is a bit insane and kind of creepy. Like we are really trying to determine if he has a f***ing heart condition? Seriously? This is a thing you are doing right now? This is easily one of the most ridiculous discussions I’ve seen here.

I trust the team’s health and fitness staff over your expert analysis.

I just find it stupid that we're hemming and hawing over a kid playing this well. If he were struggling and we were looking for a reason why it might be different, but he's playing as well as any Devils rookie ever has.

Ha, nice timing. I was the one that originally pointed that out at the time. Like I just posted, while it's certainly concerning, I find it near impossible a professional sports organization would overlook something like that. So I'm not going to worry about it.

Oh, you mean like I already said myself, chief? Unsurprisingly you're missing the point here. You mocking people for discussing factual data from his combine results is a joke when you consider 95% of posts on here are people making baseless, opinion claims repeatedly. Meanwhile, you should recover roughly 20% after 60 seconds, ACCORDING TO THE GENERAL MEDICAL CONSENSUS. Not me.

It is ridiculous. Beyond anything I’ve seen with any young player.

Ironically, the pre-draft analysis of Nolan's injury history was comparable to this lol

In addition to everything else it's just weird timing to bring this up again considering Nico had his highest icetime of the season last night (and his two highest icetimes in the last three games).

It was. I was thinking of that earlier. People trying to tie his collarbone into his hernia, but this seems a step above.

End of the day this is an 18 year old kid playing some really good hockey in a top role.

It isn’t crazy to worry how he will hold up down the stretch because he has never played this much anywhere near this level, but speculating about potential undiagnosed or hidden heart conditions is crazy.

Excluding any heart talk, I’m not sure why Nixo gets so gassed at the end of even regular length shifts. Just seems odd and not something I’ve seen before in a player.

He’s keyed up and probably burns extra energy every shift and between shifts. He’s still getting used to the pace and intensity. Presumably he’ll be able to expend a bit less energy to get the same speed and power as the season wears on and he learns a bit more about what to do and when to do it.

Hes undersized and works very hard in the corners every shift in both zones. Im not worried about him being gassed it will come with time and more game and more experience.

I'm with you on this one. Essentially, for all situations, the opinion that is most accepted is correct while the other is a ridiculous joke. There is no middle ground where we can be accepting and respectful of opinions that don't jive with the majority, apparently even when those opinions are based on facts and data. Not to say it's not understandable at times, though, because people can make some pretty huge logical leaps based on factual, yet incomplete data. I think that's the opposing argument being made here, but it's being stated as fact when it too is only opinion. If the facts and data are incomplete, they are incomplete for both sides of the argument. That's why they are both valid opinions.

He does always look to be winded at the end of the shift, but I don’t really see it on the ice. It might be bias on my part but he also doesn’t appear to fade as the game goes on, which I think would be a more obvious sign of fatigue/poor conditioning.

Playing devils advocate here: How is it any different than speculating on any other injury or illness a player may be dealing with?

I mean the Patrick stuff in the off-season was getting over the top as well.

It just seems like needless hang-wringing over an 18 year old who is playing good hockey right now.

He's the youngest kid in the league now.

A little more savvy, a little more mass and who knows how good he can be?

So glad we got lucky this summer.
