Is "at least one" too far? haha

Guess I'm just pissed as a fan of the sport that we just got to see Shohei Ohtani strike out Mike Trout, but we'll never see Crosby and McDavid on a team in a best on best.
no argument there.

Crosby, McDavid, and the rest of the Canadian team

vs

the US defense (Slavin, Fox, McAvoy, Pesce, Carlson, Werenski, etc) at the peak of their powers would have been a showdown for the ages at this past Olympics.

If the NHL had gone to the Olympics in 2018 and 2022 there would probably be a few more players on there. Assuming Canada won you'd have MacKinnon, O'Reilly, Marchand and... probably others. Kuemper as a third stringer in 2018? Either way, still no Americans.

What about if the Americans won gold?

As an American, I don't give a damn about the Olympics or WHC.

Besides, more Americans have won The Cup while representing their country than Canadians have in the past 30 years. :sarcasm:

I can tell this list is pretty insignificant because Hasek is not on it and he hard carried the Czech team to Olympic Gold

So, there's no way you could argue that Jiri Slegr has better international achievements. IMO if anything, triple gold should be Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold and World Junior Championship

That's a myth people have been propagating to justify losing to the Czechs in 1998.
In reality Czechia's team defense won them gold. They were outshot only twice the entire tournament.
Czechia even outshot both Canada and Russia in the semifinal and final games.

Guys like Jiri Slegr played impeccable mistake free hockey and deserve any/all accolades they receive.

America might not care about wc or olympics, the rest of the hockey world do and many care more about it then the stanley. So please stop the arrogance and step up.

Sweden dont care much about jwc. But we still bring the best we can.

Nothing surprising about it. Best against best hockey is barely even played anymore and when it happens Canada has crushed the competition.

The Worlds are a very watered down event.

The US hasn't won the world championship since 1960, and at that point in time the international tournaments were still being contested by amateur players.

So, no kidding there are no Americans on this list. Why would there be?

It's not arrogance, but indifference. If by step up you mean step up and try to win, the US can't because its best players are engaged in the Stanley Cup playoffs for another six weeks when the WHC begins play. Canada has a much deeper pool.... most of whom don't really care either, but even the third-tier Canadians who go are good enough to win sometimes.

Third-tier American players aren't so competitive against the world's best, and especially not when those nations play like it's the tournament they care most about, which is often the case.

Let's just say that the US loss to host Latvia in the Bronze medal game was a very minor blip on the radar in the US. Scheduling is an enormous part of the reason why that indifference persists among US fans, whose attention is on the NHL when those WHC games occur. It's a little better when the tournament is in North America, but only a little.

That's not very surprising, considering that you need to win worlds for this, and USA doesn't care about world championships. USA's last win is from 1960.

Hasek didn't really go to world championships. Czech Republic was extremely strong in the late 90s and early 00s, so he could have gotten a gold if he wanted to. But he didn't seem to want to.

The IIHF triple gold club is one of the most ridiculous concepts in hockey for a variety of reasons. Pretty shameless attempt by the IIHF to elevate its own tournament (IIHF world championship) by trying to attach it to bigger things (Olympics and Stanley Cup).

Exactly this.

An actual triple 'gold' club would be Stanley Cup, Olympics, and Canada/World Cup. Unfortunately NHL botched everything regarding the World Cup but winning those are still infinitely more impressive than anything that happens in the IIHF WC.

Say what you will about how much the Triple Gold ‘matters,’ that list of Canadian players is a lineup of killers.

I could at least see some logic to it if it was the Olympics, the IIHF world championship, and the world juniors. Sort of different levels of international competition. I could even understand it somewhat if it was the example you gave, as at least it would be the highest attainable level of the sport. The way it is though is so nonsensical. Even the name makes no sense as you don't get gold for winning the Stanley Cup. It's pretty transparent what the IIHF is going for, and it's stupid.
