American can't match McDavid, Crosby, Makar, and much more. They've been better on paper for decades..
I don’t agree, Canada was always miles better than any other nation in all positions except G, now their defense and goalies are not that impressive

Defense still isn't bad, but goaltending is atrocious.

Canada's best goalie is a broken Price.

I wasn't expecting Flippula, but I honestly wasn't sure who I was except for Finland.

The 1980 Olympic champions also won 5 Stanley Cups, it's the IIHF World Championships that they've failed to win.

Only 4 of them, right? Broten, Morrow, Johnson, Ramsey.

These guys all played in the WC in the 1980s, before the USA became an international contender. It wasn't just that they never won the WC, they never even medaled. There's a reason it was considered such a huge upset when this group won the Olympics...

Well yeah not that surprising. US hasn't won OG in a long time, and when they did the majority of the players on those teams weren't NHL-caliber, so they weren't going to get a Cup to go along with it.

The triple gold club itself is a neat trivia question, but to me putting the World Championships on the level of the Olympics or Stanley Cup is dubious. Might as well throw the World Juniors or World Cup of Hockey in there too. To me a list of just Olympic + Stanley Cup champions would be more meaningful.

The US consistently punches below their weight in international hockey, has for ages now. I always bet against them in semi or quarter final matches, easy money.

As many others have said this isn't surprising especially when you consider over the last decade there's seemingly less desire/ability for guys to compete in the WHC. When's the last time majority of the countries truly sent out their absolute best to compete? There's only 2 active players on that list and it's not because Mcdavid or a guy like Barkov aren't good enough to potentially be on that list. It just doesn't carry the same weight anymore, which is a shame.

The IIHF triple gold club is one of the most ridiculous concepts in hockey for a variety of reasons. Pretty shameless attempt by the IIHF to elevate its own tournament (IIHF world championship) by trying to attach it to bigger things (Olympics and Stanley Cup).

As for as a dearth of Americans and Finns, no shit.

I can tell this list is pretty insignificant because Hasek is not on it and he hard carried the Czech team to Olympic Gold

So, there's no way you could argue that Jiri Slegr has better international achievements. IMO if anything, triple gold should be Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold and World Junior Championship
