What do Flames fans think they are getting back for a 3rd pairing D man who has made a trade demand. Like seriously… they think they are getting a top 10 player in the league in Willy Nylander. Get real!

No team is even gonna give up a 2nd rounder for him.

I'm not a Flames fan, just somebody that lives in Alberta and watches Calgary

He's only 28.
He's 6'6
He hits like a truck
He skates incredibly well
He scored 14 goals last year
He has an xGF% of over 55% in a flames uniform.
He has a CF% of over 59% in a flames uniform.

He's everything you want in a #4/5 defensemen and has only gotten better over the past few years.. All defensemen in the NHL make mistakes.. especially mid pair guys. His skillset and intangibles are widely sought after.

He's not some 33 year old who is a complete possession anchor like Luke Schenn was/is. If Conroy doesn't get at the very least a 2nd round pick (in value) back for Zadorov then he has failed miserably.
Have to be a three way deal to bring back a similar defenceman from back east, maybe one a little better to the Canucks.

Major development out of Vancouver, just brutal news

This could fast-forward things for tanev or zadorov

Peeke, Pesce, Boqvist, Schneider maybe, Foote?, Harpur?, maybe a couple more.
And the western conference teams, not so much but Calgary.

Canuck should be loathe to retain on Garland even though they should. Any retention adds to the OEL buyout cap hit which would put dead cap space over 6 mil in two years. But retention on Beauvillier ends June 30.

What do you expect the return to be?

Oiler fan saying a 2nd. GM's love guys like Zadorov too much to pass on him.

Only problem is 3.75mil is tough to move right now and Calgary really has to figure out the rest of their plan before retaining on salaries.

Great points when Zadorov is a UFA on July 1st.

100%

No multiple Rocket winners for you.
It's easy when you intentionally shit the bed, roll around in it and to get a Matthews. But let's be honest, outside of your first round picks, you haven't exactly been the best at drafting.

The Coyotes could very easily take on that cap hit and have 3 2nds in this upcoming draft and with Valimaki out...

Out of curiosity, has it been reported what Zadorov is looking for on his next deal? Feel like that plays a big part in this too.

Just internet rumours where folks try and say he wants the moon and why he isn't worth the moon.

A lot of that speculation is based on your perception as to whether he will forever be a 3rd pair kind of guy or can be a top 4 d-man.

My take? He can be a top four guy and can ask for ~4.2-4.5 per year X 5.

Others will say 3.5M max even though he currently earns 3.75 and is a better player than when he got here.

The unsubstantiated rumors floating around suggest he's asking for 5 or 6 years at 5M+ per.

That being said, it fits in with the Flames' reaction to this whole thing - Zadorov says he wants to stay, his agent initiates contract talks only to be met with radio silence from Conroy. One would think that the Flames, perhaps more than most other organizations, would be dying to sign a 28 yo 6'6" truculent defenseman longterm. So the fact that they haven't, that Zadorov said that he wants to stay but "it's just business" strongly supports the idea that his contract demands are absurd for a #4/#5 defenseman.

But I don't think a lot of teams will care. That's an off season problem, they want him for this season.
