Kass was the reason in the first place that the Sabres had a 3-1 lead on a disgusting missed shot that put his entire line out of the play and giving the Sabres a 3 on 1 break.

Nice that he gets the goal back but he also made the worst play of any Oiler forward tonight.

Such is the risk/reward with Kass and the reason his GA is astronomically high this season.
Even worse than missing a wide open empty net? ;)

Value will never be higher, just saying.

Absolutely.

Kass creates a goal for the SAbres, then finishes one for the Oilers. At times it was hard to gauge which club he was really playing for......jk

But Kass brilliance is known to taketh, and giveth away. Between his disgusting EV GA allowed, and his mind numbing stupid penalties the player seldom stops being a liability out there. He almost cost us the game last night. Sure he got one back, good on him but with Kass its like his grievous mistakes motivate good play. Can't we just get more of the good play? (rhetorical question)

Where were the opinions on Kass being useful anytime in October, November, December, January? You know, the formative and important parts of seasons where playoff positions get established.

The last time Kass was really on board was the playoff run. Since then he looks mostly disinterested.

if you find a moment of value in a player like this you capitalize on it because you know they are rare and that normally the player cons outweigh the pros in having him.

Really its not salvageable to have players like this in your bottomsix lineup leaking GA like crazy and still win.

Its interesting that Kass was so bad in the first period last night I was convinced Hitch would yank him off the line. If it was Rattie it sure would have happened.

What are you doing for me lately...
I realize that's a large part of how hockey operates, but you can't just ignore the fact he basically fell off the face of the earth when the playoffs ended.

It's great that he's playing well now. You should still explore the option and hope a GM bites.

Kassian is a decent offensive player when he's playing with other guys that can play. He wasn't going to put up any points playing with Brodziak and Lucic, even though they were actually one of our best lines when Hitchcock initially came on board.

Put Kassian on a third line with a good third line centre, and he'll produce at a decent rate.

It's impossible to judge any of the bottom six Oiler forward offensively because they're all plugs, the key is figuring out which plug is the unplugiest of the plugs and should stick in the NHL.

So you trade him and he keeps playing like he is and what then?

Just say oh well, he wasn't playing well a few years ago...so what if we lost the trade. I didn't like him.

He's turned a corner. If he stays there he is much more valuable than any pick they get for him.

He's useful now. Oilers need more of those.

Kassian keeps showing himself to be valuable to this team as forward more likely to be in the bottom-6, but can play up in the lineup with success
Kassian is doing what others haven't been able to do. Lots have been given the chance in the top 6, but outside of Chiasson no one has done much. I guess Gagner isn't doing too bad either now.

The biggest problem was him getting dinged with penalties early on last year. After that he quit playing with that edge.

Why no coach took him aside and said it's find to take penalties from time to time is really part of the issue.

Kassian has to play hard and with that edge to be effective. Once he quit playing with that edge he was pretty much useless

I think the fact he's been very inconsistent to just straight up lazy is far more indicative of his career than the past month or so has been.

He turned a corner two years ago then returned to the player he's been throughout his entire career. That's exactly why we got him for a song. It'd be great if Kassian continued to play at this level and we all assumed he would after the playoffs ended. He did not. Not even close.

Maybe but he still refused to engage at all in games and very often just vanished into the aether.

As has the majority of this team.

Everytime a player on the roster plays like the player they wanted when they signed or traded for him, he gets traded away to capitalize on the value.

This team always seems to acquire crappy players from other teams, but the few solid guys they already have always get traded.

This isn't really something new for Kassian. He has a history of producing when he plays higher in the lineup.

Over the last two seasons, he's scoring at a 32 point pace when playing more than 13 minutes and a 15 point pace when playing less than 13 minutes.

He has value if he's used properly.

Half of kassians problem is his name, it’s hard for him to play his game if he’s worried about getting penalties on clean plays cause of the name on his jersey.

This is quite true, and I think it hurt him particularly with McLellan. TMac hated guys who took ozone penalties. It was one of the surest ways to get yourself pinned to the plank. Kassian can do some stupid things but he gets his fair share of weak calls. Unfortunately, he's at his best when he plays with a little crazy in his game.

The Oilers always deal players at their absolute lowest value.
