What I do, if I'm the GM (and miracleS happen):

-Rest Price for the season, tank, get top draft pick.

- At the deadline, trade Plekanec for a 1st, Markov for a 2nd+, Gilbert for whatever, Fleischmann for a second. Trade DD and Emelin if possible.

- Play Hudon, Andrighetto and De La Rose. Keep McCarron down.

-Give 1st line duty to Galchenyuk.

Tank line-up:

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Andrighetto
Carr - Eller - Gallagher
Hudon - Mitchell - Smith-Pelley
Byron - De La Rose - Weise

Beaulieu - Subban
Emelin - Petry
Barberio - Pateryn

Then this summer:

- Draft Matthews or Puljujarvi with 1st pick.

- Draft with the others 5 top 60 picks: 1st (2): Debrincat, 2nd (1): Libor Hajek , 2nd (2): Pascal Laberge , 2nd (3): Sean Day , 2nd (4): Tim Gettinger.

- Sign Eric Staal and Andrew Ladd and Brandon Coburn

2016-2017 line up:

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Gallagher
Ladd - Staal - Matthews/Puljujarvi
Hudon - Eller - Andrighetto
Byron - De La Rose - Weise

Beaulieu - Subban
Coburn - Petry
Barberio - Pateryn

Price
Condon

Top prospect : Scherbak, McCarron, Debrincat, Juulsen, Lekhonen, Hajek, Day, Reway, Laberge, Lernout.

not bad but i don't think we could have a 2e for Fleischman.....maybe a 4e-5e.
Instead of Debrincat:Jones,Brown,Rydish...

Pacioretty - Stall - Gallagher
Ladd - Galchy - Matthews/Puljujarvi
Hudon - Eller - McCarron/Carr
Carr/Lessio- De La Rose - Weise /Matt Martin

Coburn- Subban
Beaulieu- Petry
Barberio - Pateryn

I have so many questions... Do you really think Lars Eller can be a #1 center? Do we really need to spend 2.3 Million on a backup? Why are we demoting our top center to the 3rd line??

I'm all for replacing Pleks on the top line, but he actually has to be replaced... Lars Eller is a really good 3rd line center, but that's it... If we are improving on Plekanec on the first line, it's either Galchenyuk, or it's going to be a FA and Plekanec has been moved to clear the cap space.

Spending 2.3 Million on a backup is a really inefficient use of our cap space.

Let me suggest to you the wonderful Armchair GM application from Hockey's Cap and also don't forget to check Long-Term Outlook and Trades and Signings in the embedded web site.

First of all, Reimer is UFA at the end of the season. We need a decent goaltender to finish the season at my opinion. Condon and Scrivens are not doing the job actually. I still think we can make the playoffs so I need good goaltending to keep up in the standings.

Plekanec on the third line with Desharnais and McCarron = Grandpa needs a break
Eller on the first line with Pacioretty and Gallagher = Time to man up for Eller

Seriously? Eller as our 1st C? If the idea is to tank, then sure, I'm all for it, otherwise... That's just crazy talk...

1) Validate with the owner whether it's really playoffs at any cost or if it's the ultimate goal (win a Stanley Cup) that counts

Assuming the answer is the latter :

2) Shut down Price for the rest of the year

3) Impose to MT that he go with Galchenyuk / Pleks / Eller as the top 3 centers (in that order) for the rest of the year. Some concessions could be made based on who's playing well on a given night (although MT has largely ignored that concept anyways over the last 4 years)

4) Trade Gilbert at the deadline. Explore options for Emelin and Markov (although unlikely either gets moved before the summer).

5)a) Trade Emelin and sign Okposo in the summer
b) With the top 10 pick we'd get (assuming it's not the #1) draft one of the power wingers that will be available (Tkachuk, Jones, Laine, Puljuvarvi, Dubois, Gauthier)
c) Trade Desharnais in the summer (retain 1 million in salary)
d) explore the option of replacing Therrien (it would have to be someone who can
develop players and coach offense / strategy)
e) Fire Sylvain Lefebvre and replace with a coach that will either better develop
talent or draw the attention of other teams for a head coach (to be able to
increase the pool of potential options)

(I know, I know, I cheated :sarcasm:)

Next season's lineup :

Carr Galchenyuk Okposo
Patches Pleks Gallagher
Hudon Eller Mitchell
De LaRose / McCarron Flynn
Gehtto

Beaulien PK
Markov Petry
Barberio Pateryn
FA signee

Price
Condon

Same roster as a few pages back, but I made the some trades.

Plekanec to Anaheim for a 2017 1st round pick and Nicolas Kerdiles
Desharnais to Carolina for Trevor Carrick
Emelin to Florida for Weegar, MacKenzie, 2017 2nd
Scherbak, Juulson to Tampa for Drouin

I have to say, the armchair GM on that site is actually pretty great.

I guess that's why they call it armchair.

Ana doesn't want Plek and that contract.. especially for a first round pick
Not sure CAR wants DD either.

And I know for sure FLA doesn't want emelins contract .. especially for weegar who is a decent prospect and mackenzie who does his job well.

Drouin deal? maybe.

Anaheim takes Plekanec, puts him on the second line, and moves Rickell back to the wing. Plekanec's contract isn't that bad, he's payed what a 50-60 point two way forward gets. I think he'd be a good fit in Anaheim. Especially for what would likely be a later 1st 2 drafts from now.

Carolina is likely to lose Eric Staal this year, meaning that Rask and Jordan will likely be their top 2 centers. Desharnais would be a really good 3rd line center for them.

Flordia is going to be coming off of a very good season, and could use a middle pairing d-man. I think you are overrating Weegar a bit, he's a long term work in progress. Mackenzie was just put in cushion the cap hits somewhat.
