I don't follow the Habs that closely, but based on Rutherford's past and team needs, I'm certain he is trying to trade Maatta for a depth winger with a similar cap hit. We could use younger reclamation projects" with speed. Like Hagelin.
What’s the breakdown on Maatta? Strengths and weaknesses?

Anyway a deal could be made around:

:habs

Danault + Hudon + Benn(Prefers playing right side)

:pens

Brassard + Maatta + pick

I’m not asking for the moon here, just a reliable LD who can generate a bit of offense, is solid defensively, and with enough speed to be able to keep up.

1ST ROUND PICKS AND OTHER HABS ROSTER PLAYERS ARE NOT AVAILABLE IN THIS THREAD. PLEASE PICK THREW THIS LIST OF PLAYERS WHEN MAKING A PROPOSAL. 2nd to 7th round picks are also available.

Lehkonen
Armia
Hudon
Agostino
Peca
Benn
Shlemko
DesLauriers
Chaput

PLEASE STAY RESPECTFUL OF OTHER POSTERS IN HERE!
NO PLAYER BASHING!

Thanks.

Brendon Dillon AND Melker Karlsson (2.0 M for one more year) for Hudon + 2nd

Dillon has been playing great this year, worth more than Hudon + 2nd. Melker is a meh 4th liner but a good PKer. Getting rid of his 2.0M salary for next season is the only reason we would do this (Need cap for EK65)

24, Finnish, 1st round draft pick in 2012. He was looking to become a solid #2 defensive defenseman but he got diagnosed with Thyroid cancer and never hit his ceiling. He has great Hockey IQ, what holds him back is his speed. Because the Penguins rely on quick, mobile D, Maatta is a bad fit for us. In another system he could look great as a #4. For us he is a bottom pairing guy. He makes 4 mil until 2022.

I’d rather keep Dillon than Vlasic at this point. Not because he’s better but because he’s a better fit for this team and definitely cheaper.

Andrej Sekera for a 4th round pick. He's a bit of a gamble due to his injuries in the past few years, but before those hit he was a capable 35 point 2 way defenseman with good offensive skills. He can be that again - maybe.
