So I'll take responsibility for that loss, they got caved in at the home opener that I went to and went to the game tonight. But I've seen them win twice on the road this year, so playoffs might be an issue for me if they play somewhere far to start off round 1. As for the game, insanely sloppy and the Isles were super opportunistic. Some really bad penalties and some poor goaltending from Vanecek on the first and fourth goals. Nico had a chance to get it cleared and whiffed on the second Nelson goal, Marino/Mercer went to sleep on the Clutterbuck goal. If there's a silver lining, it'll show the Devils they can't be as careless as they have been recently in every game because some teams will eventually make you pay for it. A good wakeup call for them not to get high on themselves and what they've done so far. Also those Nico + Chico bobbleheads are sweet.

The bobbleheads, Chico eating a Hot Dog on TV (well they showed the aftermath...lol), and Jack playing Goaltender were the highlights.

Everything else was just pure s--t. (oh yeah...Bratt got 2 points but I'd like a win to go with that which we didn't get)

I'd call his post hits unlucky, but I wouldn't call much else unlucky.

I think his days of 15 goals are probably over. Maybe he goes on a market correction bender through the rest of the year and winds up scoring closer to 15 than we'd ever imagine after game 27, but it's not unlike a player of his age to fall off in shooting percentage.

This is what happened to Mike Cammalleri (at an older age), Michael Ryder. Ryane Clowe had that lockout season where he scored ZERO goals in 28 games with the Sharks. He wound up finishing that season with 3 goals in 40 games after scoring 3 goals in 12 games as a Ranger, but his shooting percentage goes down dramatically after 12.

These things start out as ''Unlucky'', but before you know it you're sitting there with 1 goal in 27 games or 2 goals in 40 games and you don't really recover for the remainder of your career, even if you come out of it and a bit and score a few more the next year.

Cammalleri never really lost his scoring touch. Sure he aged and slowed down, everyone does, except me... but even in the last year of his career he managed 29 points in 66 games. His last 3 years he had 140 points in 237 games .59 ppg.

Injuries sucked while he was here in NJ as he aged, but while he was here he had 111 points in 171 games .65 ppg.

That ain't too shabby for a beat up old man. Hell those are Nico and Jack first 3 years numbers....if that is acceptable for two #1OA first 3 years surely it's acceptable for an old Cammalleri last 3 years?

Aka… if anyone wants to buy me a beer for all the wonderful writing I’ve done for you animals.

I would if I was within 1K miles STI!
Haha, I'm probably as much of an animal as anyone. Anyway, most places in North Brooklyn I drink pretty much for free.

I really enjoyed the game. I mean, sure we lost, but I got to see some incredibly fun hockey and some memorable highlight-reel plays by Jack Hughes... who has, in my opinion, become the most exciting, must-see player in the entire Eastern Conference. I mean, if I could avoid Penn Station at rush hour for the rest of my time on earth I would, but at least the game was worth it.

Glad you had fun, Steven.

Great to hear from you, btw. :)

Wish the outcome was different but C'est la vie. *shrugs*

Hope Wood is okay, though.

That was a vintage Stevens-like hit on him.

Cammalleri had a streak at the end of his time here where he scored like 1 goal in 41 games or something.

I had to look it up. Looks like it was 1 goal in his last 43 games that year/last 43 games he played here. He ended the season on a 27 goal less drought. His point totals overall weren’t bad, but his goal scoring was done.

He did go on to score 7 goals in 66 games the next year, his last in the game, but that was pretty bad for him and a shell of what he used to be.

That's usually how it works. The end of your career is never like the prime of your career and you are always a shell of what you used to be. But in context...a guy that is completely done, 35 years old and beat up scoring 29 points in 66 games in his last season isn't terrible. The season before that he was really done but he still managed 31 points in 61 games at 34 years old.

I just think he had a pretty reasonable end to he his career and to expect much more is a bit unreasonable.

The reason I brought him up is because what happened to him with goal scoring is something that happens to players when they get older. Their shooting percentage drops off, due to diminishing skill or eroding shot.

And that’s likely happening to Haula right now.

Some of it can be attributed to luck, like the post hits, which don’t even factor into shooting percentages, as post hits normally don’t count as a shot on goal, unless the counter feels like the goalie stopped it either before or after it hit the post.

But there’s reason to believe that the norm for him will be a lesser shooting percentage going forward. Likely not THiS low, but there’s cause to believe his days of shooting 10% consistently may be over.

It even happened to Kyle Palmieri the last two years, after shooting 13.2% as a Devil. It’s been under 10% the last two years, although it is 16.2% in just 20 games this year. Funny how he goes almost every season of his career at least 10% (except for 9.5% in 13-14) and then starts shooting under 10% in his first season in his 30’s.

Maybe he has another high shooting year again this year like he’s pacing for, but I’d say his seasons of shooting like he did on the Devils are no longer the norm.

But Haula never really scored a lot of points. His best seasons are pretty pedestrian. I mean his best season is 55 points in 76 games....but he's pretty much been a 20-ish point player his entire career I'm not sure we are seeing any drop off? We might be? But it it looks more like it's normal for his career

Before this season he had 112 goals in 534 games. That’s 17 goals per 82 games.

This year he’s pacing for 3 goals in 82 games.

Odds are he’ll score more than 3 goals this year, but odds are now very unlikely he’ll score 17 (even if he played 82 games) goals.

There’s still time to go on a bender and score 16 goals over the next 55 games, but not sure yet quite makes it.

Wrong as usual. Again, you’re ignoring stats and context of shortened seasons.

He has been a 35ish pt player his career.

Anyways, Haula is a placeholder for Palat. He’ll shuffle down when healthy.
He hasn’t had a bad season.

He’s remarkably on pace for I think 36 points, 33 of those being assists. That’s pretty good for just one goal to this point.

Two things. The guys are playing too fancy lately, they die in beauty. They enjoy their own skill level way too much. They need to get to the net harder, shoot more and stop trying to pass it into the net.

Second thing: Take Haula off the Hughes line and put somebody there who can actually score. Like Rango for example or maybe Zetterlund. I like Haula, but he is wasting a huge part of Jack's playmaking ability.

oh give me a break.

I'll say it once more for the BILLIONTH TIME :

Nothing we say or do here has any effect on what happens on the ice.

Not one damn thing.

Lol jc learn to read before you start fuming on me. I said we kinda DESERVED the loss, a little humilty, for being so cocky pregame.

Everyone hates us when even our announcer is laughing at the speed of our opponent. I know most of you don't care, maybe it's a cultural thing, maybe it's a jersey thing (f*** everyone who isn't us). But I'd like the other fanbases to respect the team and players a little, but our fans running their mouths and bragging is making that pretty hard.

I'm amazed how you guys can't see the irony and double standards here. Acting just like every fanbase we hate. Loving it when devils fans were doing their shouts and moking Igor in MSG, but getting pissy about it when the roles are reversed (with Isles).

I may browse the main board and post here and there but I absolutely don't give a shit what any other fan bases think of us. Unless you're interacting with fans from other team's in your actual daily life why even bother caring what other fan bases on here or social media have to say about us?

We are fans, we can enjoy our fans chanting in MSG and be annoyed Islanders fans are doing their chants, most of which sound absolutely horrid, in our arena as well. I get why they were chanting but I sure as hell don't have to like it.

I've hated Islanders fans for years, absolutely obnoxious loud mouths like Rangers fans in a different shade of blue. f*** em all.

RIP the 4th line.

Every team deals with injuries. It sucks, but better than one of the top 6 going down. Now we will really see how much depth we actually have.

Eh maybe because we are all humans, and should get along regardless of what sport team we root for??
Maybe because the players don't deserve to get shit on because their fanbase.
Maybe because eventually when the tides turn, people treat you much nicer when you're low if you treated them nicer when you were high.

But everyone is free to live their life as they wish, keep on hating if that's the kinda energy you wanna put into world. I need a f***ing break from this website..

Maybe in real life, yes.

But when it comes to Sports in general, you really believe opposing fans will be "nicer" if you were nice to them in the past?

Hardly.

Not really seeing it yet with Holtz. He's not a slow skater at all but he's slow as hell processing the game. He just doesn't get to the right spots on the ice or anticipate the play well.

Being on that line where the other guys are pretty much north/south with speed isn't helping though. He'd probably do better with someone like Jack who curls up and delays and draws guys to him and Holtz could find those soft areas to unleash his shot. I doubt they play him there unless he becomes really good at face offs lol.
