I can think of a lot of elite skilled players that would look great with McDavid.

Makar scores at a higher rate away from Mackinnon. In any case they are both locks. The Avalanche player who might go for chemistry reasons is Devon Toews, so he can partner with Makar.

A lot of times players that play on the same team don't have good chemistry.
McDavid is actually quite finicky when it comes to chemistry with players. Although, we really haven't had high end linemates for him other than Draisaitl, who he does great with.

But the principle is there. You can't just look at it like adding the best players together. Team Canada will likely look at keeping teammates together, because that is the formula that was the difference between failure in 1998 and the gold medals they got after (or at least that was how they interpreted the difference being). If Makar and Mackinnon wasn't a thing, fine. I also happened to mention Hyman as a possibility as a McDavid linemate, but I'm an Oilers fan. There might be different linemate combos from other teams that might make sense, that I just don't know about. Although, the Bergeron-Marchand connection is obvious to all.

I'd be confident in pairing McDavid with any elite forward who can make a quick one touch pass and doesn't need a lot of time with the puck (i.e. no Barzals).

Lots of tantalising options for Canada. Think we will see the Marchand- Crosby- Bergeron line broken up if Bergeron is showing his age at the start of next year. All 4 lines have high end scoring and are defensively responsible.

Marchand - Mcdavid - Point
Huberdeau - Mckinnon - Marner
Scheifele - Crosby - Stone
O'Reilly - Bergeron - Barzal
Tavares, Couturier

Chychrun - Makar
Theodore - Pietrangelo
Doughty - Hamilton
Pelech, Nurse

Canada could once again send three able teams. Sick. Russia has a juggernaut winger situation right now, and they are super set with goalies also.

Laine - Barkov - Rantanen
Teräväinen - Aho - Puljujärvi
Tolvanen - Hintz - Kapanen
Granlund - Kotkaniemi - Kakko

Lindell - Heiskanen
Hakanpää - Ristolainen

Hadn’t really considered these D pairings, but I quite like them. I might consider swapping Theadore and Pelech to make that second pair more of a shutdown pairing.

Chris Tanev is making the team 100%. Canada loves to bring elite defensive players and he’s as good as you get on the PK and in his own zone.

Hanifin makes USA too.

I don’t think people understand how good either of these players are.

Finland has always had "workers" mentality and ultra defensive play. The first line would be very unfinnish, in a sense that it everything but. Well i guess Barkov has enough eye to cover the boys.

I guess without Koivu the shutdown line would be the 4th, since Haula is the best faceoff guy of the team. Not sure how Tolvanen would fit in that role though.

give me a break

100%???????

yeah. Everyone’s roster looks like a Harlem Globetrotters. No way you put Dougie Hamilton on a team with Makar, Theodore etc. over Chris Tanev. Who kills penalties? Who do you play against the other teams best players?

Look at Quinn Hughes with and without Chris Tanev.
Pretty sure Tanev was the top WAR defenceman last year too

no offense but your homerism is shining bright here. Let’s see if Tanev can get to February healthy before you throw him in as a 100% lock.

hughes numbers without tanev were better last year

and Tanev was not the best WAR on Vancouver for defenseman

Making it past guys like Makar, Pietrangelo, Ekbkad, Parayko, Hamilton, Pulock or even Doughty? Yeah, I don't think so.
