I just want to underscore that this will enable teams to score TWO goals as the result of ONE missed call.
It's that good of an idea.
It's that good of an idea.
What happens if the ref gets the call wrong even on review?
You better be sure? What we saw this year is that the difference between a play being onside and offside is a matter of millimeters. How on earth can any coach be sure based on a moment's review? The whole system should be abolished.
Calling it now:
Team is desperately defending a 1-goal lead in an elimination game. Pileup in the crease, opponent scores, goalie justifiably freaks out because he was pushed. Coach calls for review, expecting to preserve the lead. Ref decides it's inconclusive, hits that team with an additional penalty. Opponent scores a second unearned goal in the final minute and advances.
Part II: Losing city's Congressman calls for game-fixing inquiry.
This is the kind of insanity that lies on the other side of that door. Don't do it, NHL. Put the rulebook down and walk away.
Enough with this stupid replay-minigame ****.
Seasons are starting to hinge on procedural details that have nothing to do with playing hockey.
so now you get double ****ed when the officials get the review wrong and you get a penalty as a bonus.
I think you should be able to challenge without a timeout with a delay of game penalty as the punishment if you're wrong though.
Enough with this stupid replay-minigame ****.
I bet you that coaches will become WAY more reluctant to use the GI challenge, especially in that scenario. You rather take your chances in OT than with the review booth.
Inconclusive shouldn't be a penalty because the refs couldn't definitively tell you your challenge was wrong. It's also close enough that's its a legit challenge and not just a time waste. A conclusive call saying the refs were right should result in a penalty.
NHL needs to stay the F away from the replay madness, i.e. trying to get every stinkin call correct.
Right now the NFL has completely screwed their product. There are a lot of people starting to watch hockey now as a result, as it's really the only game out there with lots of action for your time spent watching. But wait, the NHL has caught the bug and they're gonna get everything perfect.
Just sit tight fans, and let's have the drama unfold with commercials as we have the outcome of the game hinge on the call. It's idiotic and I pray the NHL doesn't go that route any further than they already have.
So penalties for missed challenges? Sure, because teams won't challenge everything and the game will be faster as a result. But getting rid of it altogether is even better.
