I see a lot of discutions about potential trades. Jagr, Markov, Stewart etc and it seems a bit contradictory to me.

What do you do if you are MB?

Do you try to improve nowand try for a nice playoff run and maybe resign the player?

Do you sell for the future?

Do you go with what you have now hoping for a Price playoffs miracle?

Sell Markov for young NHL ready prospect that will help us more than markov in 3 years, when we'll be real contender.

Do not buy.
Sell if ridiculous offer.
Don't lose Markov for UFA.

If I am MB :

1- Fire Therrien
2- Sign PK (6x7,6)
3- Trade Gionta (for whatever picks I can get)
4- Sign/Trade Markov

Wait.

we have a lot of the same.

wouldn't be upset to see some move, and if we cannot sign markov...we move him for the right price. we're not contenders this year, and not much would change if someone moved.

that said, i expect markov to be signed for 3 years, 15 million.

If Buffalo can get Matt Moulson and a first round pick for Tomas Vanek, and Ryan Miller and Steve Ott for Jaro Halak, Chris Stewart, a prospect and 2 first round picks?

We can get a top prospect and 1st for Markov.

Pitsburgh
Washington
and like 12 other teams would love for Markov.

It's a sellers market and we have some players we can totally move. Why not? It would give us some assets for the future, whether it's actual young players/picks or picks we could move in the future when we're really in a position to contend.

I don,t know but whatever he does i hope he does NOT BUY. Unless it's a trade for some young upcoming or blue chip prospect. But trading assets for veterans in hoping that the Habs will go deep in the playoffs is a big no no. I have nothing against bringing a 3rd or 4th liner who is a faceoff specialist or something like that but going after guys like Moulson , Vanek , Kesler is something i don't wanna see as the cost would be too high for the little return it would give short term.

Sell if you get a call with an interesting offer for one of the vet (Gionta , Briere , Markov etc). Return should be picks and/or prospects. Trading deadwood for deadwood (IE : Bourque for another washed up guy who hs the same number of years on his contract) should be a no no as well. Just buy out the guy at the end of the season instead

I was against trading Markov because I think anything can happen in the playoffs with a great goalie (see 1986 and 1993) but the return Buffalo got for Ott/Miller is making me seriously reconsider.

Also the fact that St. Louis just set the bar really high for the Western conference contenders. Only contender that probably isn't worried at this point is Chicago.

Anaheim, San Jose, LA, Colorado are probably all looking to improve their rosters and will need to outbid eachother in doing so. Could be a sellers market.

If we can get a significant return for Markov then go for it.

I'd also be tempted to move Moen. With a cluster on the 3rd and 4th lines, moving him for a pick or a prospect may be worth it.

I also have a feeling that Eller will be moved before the deadline.

86 and 93 teams had a lot more than just great goaltending. Bad teams do not win cups or even get to the big dance. I hate seeing people compare this team to those 2 teams. Not trying to jump down your throat BTW.

MB's goal was to make the playoffs and his team is in a good position right now to make them so he'll likely either stand pat or make a minor depth move. The Habs are not contenders so I hope he doesn't pay the price for a UFA rental.

If it were me I'd be taking offers on anyone except the young guys.

This year is a unique situation where there are a lot of buyers, not a lot of sellers and 4-5 teams with real Stanley Cup potential with holes.

It would obviously be throwing in the towel a bit, but there are some nice deals to be had if Bergevin has the stones.

I don't think Bergevin "must" do anything it all depends on what the offers/asking price is. I voted buy but it'd be conditional because I'd only want players who still have at least another year on their contract.

Briere should be good trade bait, too.

There should be a buy and sell option. Move some people for good futures and younger players that can help now, and graduate some AHL players.

Sell, if the offer is right (something more than grinders and character guys haha) though I must say that the only 2 attrictive players we could sell without hurting too much might be Markov and Eller. I'd be sad to see Eller go but if we're getting a player that isn't an UFA and top-6, I'd do it.
