Where are the Caps expecting him to play?

Dillon is nice as a 2nd or 3rd pair defenseman, but it’s a stretch to look at him as a 1st pair guy.

Seems like a reasonable trade for both teams.

The Capitals don't employ a traditional first pair. Carlson is on one pair and their primary defensive shutdown pair is another pair. What they have used is a 1-4 and 2-3 configuration. Their problem has been that after moving Niskanen and Kempny being damaged, their 3 and 4 d haven't been up to it.

I would say he's a top 4 complementary player. He belongs in a top 4 but his somewhat limited offensive/puck-moving capabilities means that I wouldn't count on him to carry a pairing.
Which if he plays with Carlson or Orlov would just have to be a steady complimentary defensive presence. Should work out great.
