I think Panik could fill in Connolly's shoes pretty well. In a lot of ways they are similar. Both have the tools to score goals but aren't necessarily going to put up big point totals, both took quite a while to produce anything significant in the NHL and they even have almost the same career goals/PPG.

Good catch by the Caps IMO. Panik might not be enough for a team looking for top 6 help, but the role the Caps can give him it can work out.

People who are saying one year too long aren’t familiar with Bmac’s style of contract. He doesn’t worry too much about term as long as he gets a lower AAV. He isn’t afraid to move players with an extra year or two when that time comes
