Would you rather your team win the Stanley Cup, or your country win a gold medal?

Obviously this is not an either/or, you can do both. But if you had to choose one..

Which would you choose?

Please include your country and your favorite team with your answer.

Ranger fan, USA, and I would prefer a Ranger Stanley Cup to a USA gold medal.

Caps fan, I was born in Russia but I have US citizenship as well. It's a tough one, but I'll probably go with the Caps winning the cup since it would be more rewarding after the grueling playoffs. Although Russian winning gold and beating Canada wouldn't be half bad either :)

Toronto Maple Leafs, Canada - Stanley Cup, not even close.

Canadian players would all trade all the Olympic glory for 1 cup ring. It is much harder to win the Cup.

I'd like to see the Habs win a Cup instead of Canada winning gold. I've witnessed 2002 but am too young to remember 1993.

lol I'm a Flames fan so I finally don't have any false beliefs in cup glory this year...

Bring home the Gold Canada!!!!!

For those saying that its easier to win the cup, There's only been 2 teams ever to win Gold at home once in the 60's and in 1980'. It's not that easy.

I think most all North American fans (USA and Canada) would say cup. But I can see a lot of European fans wanting to see their country win Gold over their favorite NHL team winning the cup.

As a Michigander and Red Wings fan from day one, I'd much rather see them win a cup then Team USA win gold.

The Stanley Cup because it is far more indicative of a true champion than a gold medal is. As Jagr said, the Olympics is more about which team is the most fortunate rather than which team is the best.

Anyone familiar with a true measure like a seven game series can see that. I've seen teams come back from 3-0 game deficits and win and teams winning a series after being down 3 games to one is a common occurrence.

The one off format with teams composed of players that rarely play together as team somewhat taints the meaning of an Olympic gold medal.

ETA: Canucks fan / Canada

I would prefer a Vancouver Canucks Stanley Cup victory to a Team Canada Gold medal victory and it's really not even close.

Only the tenth time I've seen this thread in the last month.

Stanley Cup, easily...even if my team had just won one.

Of course it is, of course. That's why you win it once every 50 years...
Or longer, given my team.

Seriously though, the olympics only takes place once every four years. So the % chance of Canada winning an olympic gold (especially since professional players were included in the olympics), is much higher than the average team in the NHL winning the cup any given year.

It's quite easy since I don't actually live in Calgary nor have ever visited there so I'm not a real Flames fan, just gloryhunter...without the glory part.

Olympic Gold
