One Bruins number that is neither retired nor likely worn any longer is #6. It's considered bad luck after #1 pick Gord Kluzak wore it and succumbed to chronic knee problems. When Joe Thornton started his career wearing #6, a writer or two in Boston started grumbling that he should get rid of it. Joe eventually switched to #19, after Steve Yzerman, I believe.

For what it's worth, in my own Boston-area hockey league, I wear #77.

Before Roenick even wore it, I wore 97. It started when I was 14 and trying out for an older team and i just kept it. Never really had to worry about anyone already having that number and I love the way it looks on a jersey. Some numbers, from a visual standpoint, just stand out more than others.
