Playing off of the what number do you wear thread, I am curious to know what you all thought the worst number was to wear..

being from pittsburgh and a disciple of mario lemieux (ok hes like my favorite player ever), I HATED it when kids wore 66...or even 68 (jagr) for that matter. we used to dog kids who wore those numbers ridiculously bad

how about you guys>

I always hated to see numbers higher than 28 for skaters, and 35 for goalies.
Old codger voice: "I remember the days when" goalies wore 1 or 29-31, maybe 35 (Tony Esposito ;) )and Defencemen wore 2-6....

Wayne went and ruined all that!

Way up north...
99. No one should wear that number. It belongs to Gretzky and no one is good enough to wear it. Same thing with 4 because of Bobby Orr and Jean Beliveau. 66 should not be worn after Mario retires. 69 is simply a dumb number to pick. Yeah we all know it's a posion but grow up.

You guys need something better to worry about. Seriously it is a jersey number, if a kid (and for the most part they are kids) wants to pretend he is wayne gretzky who really cares. It isn't as though Gretz is going to pop out from behind the scenes of a ford advertisment and be insulted by the jersey.

It's kind of funny how in Basketball, everybody wears #23 or #32 to copy Jordan or Magic, but in hockey, #66, #99, and in some cases even #4 and #9 are complete sacrelige

Am I wrong or did the NHL completely retire 99 so noone could wear it again?

Anyway I saw a guy in a beer league roller hockey game wear 99 :shakehead, It's simple unless you have the talent of Gretzky don't wear that number.

well, i wore 9 for a long time, but when i changed leagues and joined a team called The Aeros i changed to 12 out of respect for Gordie.

i admit i dislike any player who wears 99 unless its Wayne.

and anyone wearing 69 gets run eventually by someone on the club.

I just think it's funny how kids' numbers change.
15 years ago, you were sure to see a number 88 on every team, since Lindros was the newest big thing. Then through the 90s, every team was sure to have a 68 or a 93; Jagr was piling up points, and Gilmour was the most popular player in Canada.
Sure enough, #87 is the next big thing, and someone on every team is wearing it.

on my college team we have non-goalies that wear #34 and #35. i've always found that kinda strange.

i've always thought that pretty much any number over 40 was kinda awkward to wear.
