Is Jarvis surprising?
Berard made the team.Bordeleau getting cut is absurd. NTDP’s best forward last year (by a significant margin) and he’s been Michigan’s best forward so far this season.
They'll likely only dress 7 anyway. They just had no more healthy forwards so they took the extra defenseman. How will a 9D setup affect York?
Tbf Rafkin is also not a Finnish name.
Lundell, Helenius, Petman and Blomqvist are all Swedish names as well if being a real pedant.
But yeh, it does seem like the EHM regen namer went haywire.
I’ve heard and seen a lot of dumb things in 2020. One of the dumbest things I’ve heard is that the Russian, Finnish, & Swedish WJC teams are all flying on the same plan to Edmonton.
I'm not a big Grans fan but that has to be Covid related. Makes no sense otherwise. There are 8 spots this year. Sweden will have to ride their top 4 pretty heavily if they have a chance at Gold.
It is a mess.
They have f***ed up with hiring the charter planes. Heads should roll at IIHF.
The planes were overweight with gear... and now another plane had to be got to take luggage separately.
ALSO non-team staff who have not been in bubble are on plane. Some journalists etc. And then players just left in the airport for hours as a result without private area etc.
Sooooo bubbles completely compromised.
If everything had been done properly after the quarantine beforehand as well as proper organisation of how to get to Canada and going into bubble in Canada... the yeh... in theory tournament might be fine.
But they just f***ed up and pretty much wasted the last two weeks of players being confined and tested.
2021 WJC Notebook: Tag, You're It!How do you make sure everyone gets the most out of a final practice? You play a game of tag.
That’s right, tag. The same game you probably played on the playground, or in the backyard, and would try to get an extra push into your little brother.
Players lined up one-on-one, with the player skating forward designated as ‘it.’ Many USA Hockey coaches may recognize the lessons learned in a drill like this from their coaching seminars or ADM resources. Tag isn’t just for fun. It forces a player to focus on backward skating, lateral movement, sudden changes in direction, awareness on the ice, and most importantly competition. Bobby Brink (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Landon Slaggert (South Bend, Ind.) were standouts in the competition.
Brink, known for his unique skating ability, was able to remain elusive while skating backwards, making cuts that were both unpredictable and unfortunately for his opponents, impossible to replicate.
