USA lost BU. No huge losses but not at the finish line yet. Glad there is hockey but the tournament will be missing some luster this year with all of the missing players and fans not to mention basically no runway leading up to the tournament for most players. Feel for all the kids that only got one crack at this tournament.

Well... Sweden are going to be missing:

Their coach. Their assistant coach.
Their #1C, their #2C.
Their #6-7 Dman.
A middle six winger.

Due to COVID.

And Germany missing 2 of their top 6...

I guess more guys test positive before they come as well.

If Canada lose this one... jeez. Haha.
I was really hoping Germany would make a nice run this year. Really hard without Reichel!

I think the pandemic is going to cost us our joyous WJC Draft this year - I don't think there's any way we'll know enough about who will or won't be there in time.

Was just thinking that. Was ready to hop back into it this year. :(

As the organiser of said WJC draft I'm sadly thinking the same. It's hard to make it fair when players can be dropping out at short notice.

I've been contemplating making it like a fantasy league for this year. Anyone can pick their team and then there's no need for a draft - just pick your team and then whoever wants to join can do that.
But I'm thinking how to make it more challenging - selection criteria like at least one from each nation or a cap on number of players from one nation. Or both. Any ideas here?

I've got nothing lol. I can't figure a way it would work.

I think it goes by age at the end of tournament's date as in those born before January 5th would be ineligible.
Nope. It’s the season it’s played in. The u18s are played at the end of April historically and anyone who is 17 by the New Year of that season is eligible. The u20s just coincides with age cutoff date. Cole Caufield will turn 20 during the tournament and is still eligible obviously. Can York turns 20 on the day of the Medal Games. Still eligible.

If they did it when the tournament was played that would wipe out some of the best players in the age group since most times the best players in a Junior setting are born in the first quarter of the year.
