This notion of "safe pick" is pure nonsense. Conte and the NJ Devils, like ever other scouting staff in the league score card these players based projected attributes.

If you ever listened to Conte speak he talks about the "S's"

Skill
Skating
Sense
Spirit(will/compete)
They do their best to figure out how these attributes of a 17 year old will develop in 2 to 5 years.

There is no "safe pick", there maybe a higher value placed on a combo of size, sense and compete, possibly...but at the end of the day they have to consider all attributes not just skill.

Goal didn't appear to be Blackwood's fault. Just really bad luck that his defenseman deflected it in.

JQ is already playing better than he was last game in which I thought he played poorly outside of his lucky goal. Hopefully he keeps this up.

i guess it would mean that he's not performing up to standards/being outperformed, thus being demoted. but fortunately he's still getting 2nd line minutes. i'm not knocking the 4th line at all, but allocation of minutes still hold true

JQ has been bland this tourney.

He lacks the speed that the other forwards have and he hasn't done anything with the puck.

Barzal has been their best forward.
I've always liked him, man I hope we didn't miss out on this kid.


Chabot is a highly impressive defenseman.

Thank goodness we did not draft Crouse.
